Gafna
the elemental rats of Voya Nui
Gafna were small, ratlike Rahi native to Voya Nui, bred by the Makuta species from liquid protodermis and viruses. They came in six elemental varieties, each living in a different region of the island and able to retaliate with a blast of its element when provoked.

The six varieties#
Each kind of Gafna lived in a distinct part of Voya NuiVoya NuiAn island born from catastrophe and hiding the universe's most powerful artifact, Voya Nui was everything Bionicle 2006 promised: danger, mystery, and a race against time., settling in terrain that matched its element. Fire Gafna lived around Mount Valmai. Water Gafna kept to the Cape of No Hope. Earth Gafna dwelt in the Green Belt. Stone Gafna lived in the Desert of Sorrows, and Air Gafna were likewise found in that desert region. Ice Gafna inhabited the Ring of Ice, the frozen shoreline of the island, alongside other cold-dwelling Rahi.
Powers and behaviour#
Gafna were harmless on the whole and posed no threat unless they were attacked or cornered. When provoked, a Gafna could retaliate with a blast of elemental power corresponding to its variety, so that a Fire Gafna answered with fire, an Ice Gafna with cold, and so on. This defensive capability, paired with their small size and unremarkable appearance, made them more dangerous to the careless than they first appeared.
