Editorial policy
How Lore Fortress produces, reviews, and maintains articles. Short version: primary sources first, every claim cited, every article read by a human before publish.
Sourcing hierarchy
We rank sources by how close they sit to the canonical author. For Bionicle, that means official serials by Greg Farshtey and licensed novels at the top, followed by the 2008 BIONICLE Encyclopedia Updated and BIONICLEsector01 consensus, followed by the Bionicle Fandom wiki, with unverified fan posts last. Primary citations get specificity we insist on: chapter, issue, episode, page, timestamp. If a fact has no verifiable primary source, we say so.
AI-assisted drafting
Many articles on this site are drafted with the help of large language models over a structured pipeline of fact extraction and verification. Every draft is reviewed by a named human editor before it reaches you. Nothing publishes without the editor accepting the draft. The byline is the person responsible for the final piece, not the model that helped draft it. This is standard practice at many 2026 publications and we think hiding it is the problem, not the practice itself.
Verification pipeline
Every reference entry passes through a five-stage automated check before human review:
- Drafts are generated against a structured brief built from the BS01 wiki and primary-source corpus, not from open-ended generation.
- A style validator scans for banned phrasing, hedging, and forbidden punctuation defined in our internal style guide.
- A quote-verification step extracts every direct quotation longer than five words and matches it against the source corpus. Unverified quotations are rewritten as paraphrased prose. We do not publish quotes we cannot stand behind.
- The validator runs again to ensure quote rewrites did not reintroduce style violations.
- The named editor for the franchise reviews the final article for accuracy, tone and completeness, then signs off via the byline or the “Reviewed by” line.
Pillar articles — the long-form deep dives bylined to a specific writer — are written by that writer in their own voice with the same verification gates applied. Pillars are slower to produce because they involve real synthesis, real opinions, and the writer’s reading of the canon.
Review and approval
Joe is Editor-in-Chief and approves every article before it ships. Named reviewers listed at the bottom of an article checked that article against its sources and flagged issues before publish. If a piece carries no "Reviewed by" line, the editor handled the review alone.
Canon handling
For Bionicle we treat 2001 through 2010 as the primary canon (G1) and 2015 through 2016 as the reboot (G2), labeled inline wherever the two diverge. Greg Farshtey's expanded canon (serials, BZPower Q&A, Makuta's Guide to the Universe) counts under G1. For Star Wars we treat current Disney canon and Legends as parallel tiers and surface both. When sources disagree, we use a Canon Notes callout to list the variants with source attribution. We do not average contradictory sources into a false consensus.
Corrections
If you find a factual error, email the editor at the address in the site footer. Corrections are made directly to the article, and the last_verified date in the article header is updated. Significant corrections (changing the meaning of a claim, adding or removing a canonical event) are noted in a visible changelog at the foot of the article.
Affiliate links and ads
Some outbound links on the site are affiliate links, marked with the HTML rel attribute "sponsored" and declared in an affiliate disclosure at the bottom of affected pages. We only ever link products we would actually recommend. Display ads may appear on articles once we qualify for a reputable ad network. No pay-for-coverage, ever.
Source attribution
We write our own articles. We do not copy or closely paraphrase from other sites. Wikis we draw on (Bionicle Fandom, BS01, Wookieepedia) are cited by name where they informed a piece, and primary sources get the main citation weight wherever possible. Images carry individual credit lines with license and source.
