Baxton entered Viper training following the arrival of Pegasus in the Fleet. After graduating, he was assigned to Galactica's air group to take part in an operation, lasting several weeks, to defend the mining ship Majahual. Though he was a qualified pilot, he remained inexperienced, struggling to handle vertigo and to grasp the command structure he now served within.
The hunt of Scar#
Baxton was placed on Combat Air Patrol as wingman to Tucker "Duck" Clellan. While the two were heading back to Galactica to refuel, they were stalked by the Cylon Raider ace nicknamed Scar.
Recalling advice he had been given by Captain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, Baxton disregarded Duck's order to retreat and turned back to face the Raider. Scar quickly eliminated him.
