Flight from the Colonies#

The Gideon was a Gideon-type heavy hauler transport that escaped the Fall of the Twelve Colonies by joining President Laura Roslin's refugee fleet under the protection of Galactica. Under the command of Elias Meeker, it carried a crew and passengers numbering roughly 907.

The Gideon Massacre#

When President Roslin was arrested for interfering with a military operation, distrust of the military spread through the fleet. After Colonel Saul Tigh declared martial law and dissolved the Quorum of Twelve, the crew of the Gideon objected to their lack of representation under the junta and joined a boycott of goods. Tigh ordered military personnel to dock with the Gideon as an intimidation tactic while confiscating its cargo, but a confrontation with the occupants got out of hand, and several civilians were killed in the heat of the moment in what became known as the Gideon Massacre. The events had a lasting impact over the weeks that followed, and Colonel Tigh faced two attempts on his life in revenge.
