Giana O'Neill was a human refugee who survived the Fall of the Twelve Colonies by winning a place in a lottery drawing staged by Lieutenant Valerii and Lieutenant Agathon. Brought to the fleet aboard a Raptor, she enlisted in the Colonial Fleet as a deck hand, unaware that her missing husband had also survived the attack.

Survival of the Fall#

Giana O'Neill survived the Fall of the Twelve Colonies by winning a lottery drawing staged by Lieutenant Valerii and Lieutenant Agathon, which determined who among the desperate survivors would be carried to safety. She was brought to the fleet aboard Raptor 312. Drawing on her experience working at Sun Airways, she immediately enlisted in the Colonial Fleet as a deck hand, helping to replace the deck personnel lost during the Fall.

Family in the fleet#

Unbeknownst to her, her husband Simon and her daughter had also survived the Fall, evacuating Gemenon aboard the freighter Cybele. Over the coming months her relationship with her husband deteriorated, until he committed suicide by self-air-locking. Unknown to her, Simon was a Number Four Cylon, who killed himself outside the range of the resurrection ship because he was unwilling to carry out an act of sabotage ordered by the Number One known as Brother Cavil.
