Gemenon, known as "The First Colony," was a planet in the Cyrannus star system orbiting the star Helios Alpha, and one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. Settled by the refugees who fled Kobol, it was the first world in the system to be colonized and grew into the most religious of the colonies, home to several major centers of worship. A close neighbor of Caprica, Gemenon shared an orbit with it as a double planet. Following the onset of the Cylon War, Gemenon became one of the twelve core worlds of the United Colonies of Kobol.
History#
Gemenon was the first planet in the Cyrannus system settled by the refugee convoy that fled Kobol. In the aftermath of their arrival, the colonists endured a technological dark age during which access to computer information was lost and all knowledge came to be passed on written paper. As a consequence, basic facts such as the reasons the colonists had left Kobol were, over the following two thousand years, interpreted as a religious document and taught by priests. This deep continuity of faith made Gemenon the most religious of all the colonies, with several major centers of religious worship.
Gemenon was counted among the poorer of the Twelve Colonies. After the start of the Cylon War it became one of the twelve core worlds in the United Colonies of Kobol.
Geography#
Gemenon was known for an extreme climate that ranged from frozen plateaus to searing deserts. Its most prominent landmark was the Gramadas, a vast mountain range so large that it could be seen from space. Other noted sites included the Kobol Colleges, the Illumini Pantheos, the Spatiu Gol Plateau, and the Pustinu Desert. Its capital was Oranu, and Illumini was a second major city. The official language of the colony was Old Gemenese.
