By Joe Garratt

Aquaria, also known as Aquarion or Aquarius and called "The Ice Colony", was a planet in the Cyrannus star system, orbiting the star Helios Delta. It was one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, named after the Aquarius tribe who had resided on Kobol, though it is unknown whether its citizens held any relationship to that tribe. A cold, sparsely populated frontier world, Aquaria grew from a research outpost into a distinct colony governed by direct democracy.

Settlement and government#

Aquaria was one of the latest, if not the last, of the Twelve Worlds to be settled. Unlike worlds such as Caprica, which were established as colonies from the start, Aquaria began as a research outpost that over time developed into a distinct colony. Unlike the Virgons, a pre-existing group that settled several planets in the Cyrannus star system, Aquaria's population consisted largely of migrants from other colonies who sought to live on the frontiers of some of the last settled locations in Helios Delta.

Its political system was a direct democracy. All Aquarians held the right to vote on community matters rather than electing a representative, and could elect a Prime Minister on a popular two-thirds majority vote.

Geography#

Aquaria was a cold planet with an icy ocean covering most of its surface. Its only major landmass, Kyrios, was a crescent-shaped continent with several volcanoes. Both Aquaria and Canceron shared an orbit with the gas giant Hestia, placed at its L4 and L5 Lagrange points respectively. Its principal attraction was the Kyros Summerfest.
