McConnell was a supply ship serving within the refugee fleet of vessels that escaped the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. It became caught up in one of the quieter scandals of the Fleet, plundered from within by the very officer who should have protected it.

A supply ship of the Fleet#

McConnell was one of the supply vessels that carried the stores on which the surviving civilian fleet depended. As such, it numbered among the ships whose cargoes were precious in a fleet running always short of provisions.

McConnell was one of several supply ships that Commander Jack Fisk secretly raided. Fisk siphoned off high value goods from the ships under his reach and built up a personal stockpile, which he then traded on the black market that operated within the Fleet, turning the misery of scarcity to his own profit.
