Tad Thorean
the gamer known as Heracles
Tad Thorean was a Caprican youth and Holoband addict who, under the avatar Heracles, helped a sentient program seize control of the virtual underworld of New Cap City before his own avatar was destroyed and permanently banished.
Tad Thorean was a citizen of Caprica who came of age in the decades before the Cylon War. A restaurant worker in the waking world but a constant presence inside the virtual reality of the Holoband, he was known to other players by the avatar Heracles, and through that persona he became entangled in the affairs of New Cap City and the sentient program that came to rule its underworld.
A life lived in the Holoband#
In the waking world, Thorean was a socially disconnected restaurant worker. Like many other teenagers of his generation on Caprica, he was a Holoband addict, and he poured his energies into the virtual realm rather than the life around him. Within the Holoband he assumed the persona of Heracles, through which he became acquainted with other players such as Vesta and Emmanuelle.
Heracles and Tamara-A#
In 1942, Thorean encountered Tamara-A, a sentient piece of software that he at first mistook for an ordinary girl unable to log out of her Holoband. The two formed a partnership and worked together to gain control of the underbelly of the virtual city of New Cap City. Recognizing the significance of what he had found, Thorean alerted Joseph Adama to her existence.
The discovery carried a shock. Thorean was frightened to learn that Tamara Adams had in fact died months earlier in the 1942 Mag-Lev bombing, and that the figure he had been working alongside was something other than a living girl.
Banishment from the game#
After Adama tracked him down, Thorean was forced once more to look for the program he had known as Tamara. His role in the affair proved short-lived. When his avatar was killed in New Cap City, the rules of the game permanently banned him from returning. Feeling his identity left in ruins, he passed Adama on to the player called Emmanuelle and withdrew from the matter.
