Xaviar: the renegade Colonial commander

Xaviar was a commander and council member of the refugee fleet that fled the Twelve Colonies of Man for Earth. Disgusted by Commander Adama's policy of non-interference, he used a time machine to travel to the 1940s and aid Nazi Germany, hoping to force Earth into a technological renaissance.

By Joe Garratt

Commander Xaviar was a human refugee from the Twelve Colonies of Man, who escaped the Cylon onslaught aboard a rag-tag fleet of refugee ships bound for Earth. When the fleet at last arrived after some thirty years of travel, Earth proved too technologically inferior to stand against the Cylons and too politically disunited for the survivors to reveal themselves without endangering its stability.

A council member's despair#

Xaviar served as a commander and member of the council that governed the surviving fleet. After thirty years of flight from the Cylons, the fleet reached Earth only to discover a world far behind the Colonies in its technology and fractured by its own divisions. The survivors judged that openly revealing themselves could threaten Earth's fragile political stability, and Commander Adama favored a careful policy of gradually and secretly advancing the planet's scientific development rather than intervening directly.

Sabotage of history#

Disgusted by what he saw as a timid proposal of non-interference, Xaviar broke with the fleet's leadership. He used a time machine to travel back to the 1940s, where he began aiding Nazi Germany in the development of advanced rocketry. He believed that by helping the Nazis win the war he could trigger a sweeping technological renaissance, raising Earth's capabilities until the planet stood on a par with the Colonies and could help resist the Cylons.

Defeat#

Xaviar's interference with Earth's past was pursued and undone by Captain Troy and Lieutenant Dillon of Galactica, who tracked his movements through time and foiled his attempts to alter history.
