Energy Siphon Blade

The Energy Siphon Blade, formally the Nihu-Motara Energy Siphon Blade, is a sword made on XiaXiaA hostile island southeast of Metru Nui, home to the Vortixx and their brutal mercenary culture. that drains a being's strength and energy and wraps its own blade in what it takes. It began as a fan entry in a BIONICLE storyline contest for new Xian weapons and was accepted into canon by Greg Farshtey, who later said that only its function is canon. Origin and testing#

The blade comes from Xia. The contest entry that introduced it gave it a history: before the Great Cataclysm, TeridaxTeridaxTeridax orchestrated a thousand-year scheme that ended with him occupying the Great Spirit Robot itself before his death on Bara Magna. sent two of the Toa defending Metru Nui, a Toa of Water and a Toa of Stone, to Xia as test subjects while the weapon was made. Greg Farshtey later said that only the weapon's function is canon, so this history should be read as the entry's invention, not official story. (Energy Siphon Blade contest entry)

Function#

The prongs at the end of the blade start draining the strength and energy of any being they are pressed against, in much the same way as the Rahkshi VorahkVorahkVorahk is a black and dark grey Rahkshi of the Kraata species, serving as a servant of Makuta within the Brotherhood of Makuta. Originating from Mangaia, Vorahk commands the power of Hunger and carries the Staff of Absorption.. The blade doesn't stop at weakening its victim: it also wraps itself in the energy it takes. The entry also described several models for beings of different sizes, including one for Toa-sized beings and one for larger ones, and a size-changing model sold only to the Makuta. A Matoran-sized model was supposedly scrapped as unprofitable. Like the rest of the backstory, these details sit outside what Greg Farshtey accepted as canon. (Energy Siphon Blade contest entry)

Limits#

The blade works best against beings whose elements bring no added physical strength, such as Water, Ice, Fire and Air. Elements that naturally come with extra strength, Earth, Stone and Iron, resist its draining to a degree. (Energy Siphon Blade contest entry)

The entry added that the Brotherhood of Makuta banned using the blade on its own members on pain of death, since nobody knew whether it could draw on a Makuta's essence. That rule belongs to the non-canon backstory. (Energy Siphon Blade contest entry)
