The hive-mind theory#

MatoroMatoroA quiet Ko-Matoran translator who became a Toa Inika and then a Toa Mahri, Matoro gave his life with the Mask of Life to restore Mata Nui. once put forward a theory to account for the beetles' fixation on the Memory Crystals. He suggested that they actually absorbed knowledge from the crystals they consumed and shared it among themselves through a sort of hive-mind, so that the intelligence of the entire species increased with what any one of them ate. The idea was regarded as far-fetched, but it would have explained the beetles' otherwise puzzling behavior.
