Predators of the Archives#
Before the Great Cataclysm, Long Fangs were apex predators in the shadowed levels beneath Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive.. Their preferred target was the Stone RatStone RatSmall underground Rahi with teeth powerful enough to chew through nearly anything, and notorious for the plague they caused in Ta-Metru., smaller game they cornered with speed and teeth. Seven feet of muscle and jaw, they thrived in the cool darkness where light never reached. Their intelligence was basic. Hunger drove them, not strategy. But that made them no less dangerous to anything smaller or slower.
Displaced and Defended#

The Archives flooded or collapsed, and food vanished. Long Fangs surged to the surface, hunting larger prey out of desperation. Turaga wield Noble Kanohi masks and weakened elemental powers, guiding their communities. DumeDumeDume is a Turaga of Fire and the former ruler of Metru Nui, distinguished by his red and black coloring and the Noble Kanohi Kiril, the Mask of Regeneration. As a member of the Turaga of Metru Nui, he wields a Staff of Office and commands a weakened mastery of Fire. He later resides on the reformed Spherus Magna. saw them as a threat and ordered their capture and removal. The Rahaga stepped in to argue their case. These creatures were native to the city's ecosystem now, they said. The law had shifted beneath everyone's feet once already. Why erase what adaptation had created?
A Question of Belonging#
The conflict between DumeDumeDume is a Turaga of Fire and the former ruler of Metru Nui, distinguished by his red and black coloring and the Noble Kanohi Kiril, the Mask of Regeneration. As a member of the Turaga of Metru Nui, he wields a Staff of Office and commands a weakened mastery of Fire. He later resides on the reformed Spherus Magna. and the Rahaga reveals something the early lore often understated. Once the city was sealed and evolution had its run, it was hard to say what belonged and what didn't. The Long Fangs didn't choose to live on the surface. Circumstance forced them there. But after surviving the Cataclysm's chaos, they'd earned their place. The Rahaga's defense wasn't sentimental. It was pragmatic.
