Phase Dragon

Phase Dragons are speed-obsessed RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts. native to Le-MetruLe-MetruThe teal district where Le-Matoran managed everything that moved through Metru Nui, from chutes to airships., and they love to chase fast-moving objects and creatures. They're built for velocity and possess an unusual gift: the ability to phase through solid matter like ghosts. This made them well-suited to Le-MetruLe-MetruThe teal district where Le-Matoran managed everything that moved through Metru Nui, from chutes to airships.'s dangerous test tracks, where a normal RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts. would've crashed constantly. They're surprisingly gentle creatures, despite their threatening appearance, though their behavior changed dramatically when the VisorakVisorak (Rahi)Spider-like Rahi employed by the Brotherhood of Makuta whose name meant 'Stealers of Life' and whose swarms threatened the Matoran Universe. invaded and the city went quiet.

The Hunt on Le-Metru#

Phase Dragons originated as natural predators of movement itself. They'd chase airships and vehicles down the test tracks, driven by an almost obsessive love of speed. What set them apart from other RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts. hunters wasn't raw power. It was their phasing ability. When traveling at high velocities, any ordinary creature would've crashed constantly into obstacles. Phase Dragons simply ghosted through them, their bodies becoming semi-transparent and insubstantial at will.

The Rahaga noted they posed little threat when the city thrived. Traffic and movement kept them engaged, satisfied their urge to chase. They weren't hostile. They were athletes in an endless stadium, hunters without malice.

When Everything Went Dark#

Phase Dragons, suddenly without their primary stimulus, grew bored and increasingly dangerous. They'd charge at anything moving, from MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. to other RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts.. But they'd miscalculate constantly, misjudging their strength in pursuit of that old rush. A creature once harmless had become a genuine hazard, not from malice but from pure, aching need for stimulation.

New Horizons#

When the Great Spirit Robot finally collapsed and the Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control. fell, Phase Dragons faced a choice like every other inhabitant: stay in ruins or seek something new. They chose to migrate to Spherus MagnaSpherus MagnaA desert world of ancient conflict that became the merger point of the Matoran Universe and Bionicle's true endpoint. alongside their world, leaving Le-MetruLe-MetruThe teal district where Le-Matoran managed everything that moved through Metru Nui, from chutes to airships.'s dead streets behind. There, they found open skies and room to run again. They're one of Bionicle's better design concepts: a speed junkie with a ghost power, gentle when stimulated and dangerous only through boredom. Born from a 2005 contest design by David Daut, they stand as a reminder that Bionicle's creatures had genuine drives and needs, not just combat functions.
