Vacuum: the power to draw away the air

An elemental power of the Matoran Universe that absorbed the air from an area to create a destructive vacuum. Wielded by the Bohrok-Kal Lehvak-Kal, by some Makuta, and approximated by Toa of Air.

Vacuum was a power of the MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. Universe that absorbed all the air in a given area, causing a destructive implosion and leaving an airless void in its place. The evacuated air could then be released in a single concussive blast. The power was most closely associated with the Bohrok-Kal Lehvak-Kal, whose Vacuum Shield embodied it, though certain other beings, including some MakutaMakuta (2015)Ekimu's brother and rival Mask Maker, who forged the forbidden Mask of Ultimate Power and was sealed in the Shadow Realm with Capital City. and the Toa of Air, could produce vacuums of their own.

Effect#

Vacuum absorbed all the air in a given area, causing a destructive implosion and creating a vacuum where the air had been. The power could then release the evacuated air in a single blast, one strong enough to smash through solid rock. The double action, an inward collapse followed by an outward concussion, made it as effective as a weapon of pressure as it was a means of suffocation.

Lehvak-Kal and the Vacuum Shield#

The power was most closely tied to the Bohrok-Kal Lehvak-Kal, which channeled it through its Vacuum Shield. During the Bohrok-Kal's campaign against the Toa NuvaToa NuvaThe form the Toa Mata took after stepping into the Energized Protodermis beneath the Bahrag, with new masks, new tools, and the elemental scale to fight Karda Nui., Lehvak-Kal used its Vacuum power, alongside the other Kal's elemental powers, to knock the group of Toa unconscious in an early clash.

Lehvak-Kal's sudden surge of Vacuum power launched it through the island and out into space, ending the threat it posed. The Vacuum Shield it had borne was the physical means by which it focused the power.

Other wielders#

Vacuum was not exclusive to the Bohrok-Kal. Some MakutaMakuta (2015)Ekimu's brother and rival Mask Maker, who forged the forbidden Mask of Ultimate Power and was sealed in the Shadow Realm with Capital City. could wield it: in the battle against TuyetTuyet (Dark Mirror): the Toa empress of an alternate Matoran UniverseIn the alternate timeline of the Dark Mirror, Tuyet seized the Nui Stone, murdered Toa Lhikan, and built a tyrannical Toa Empire that crushed the Brotherhood of Makuta and the Dark Hunters alike.'s Toa Empire in an alternate timeline, the MakutaMakutaA glossary entry distinguishing the three referents of the word Makuta: the species, the individual Teridax, and the title held by every Brotherhood member. A Toa of Air, drawing on a related command over the atmosphere, could create a quick vacuum around an enemy, and with no air present the sound of that enemy's shouts could not travel, a use that turned the power into a tool of silence as much as force.
