Dylan Carver was the young son of Sergeant John Carver and his wife Damara. He died in the Necromorph outbreak that the Circle unleashed on his home planet of Uxor, and his memory returned to haunt his father through the visions of the Markers.
Life on Uxor#
Dylan Carver lived on the planet Uxor, raised by his mother Damara while his father, Sergeant John Carver, was kept largely occupied by his EarthGov duties. Despite his father''s frequent absences, Dylan idolized John''s role as a soldier and was understanding about why he was so often away. On one of Dylan''s birthdays, after the boy received a toy soldier as a gift, John tried to discourage Damara from encouraging their son''s dream of becoming a soldier, not wanting Dylan to endure the same hardships or the same struggle to balance duty against family.
Death and the Marker#
When Unitologists attacked Uxor in an effort to free the Shroud 4 Marker, the electromagnetic pulse the artifact emitted knocked out the colony''s communications and vehicles. A ship fell from orbit and destroyed much of the Residential Sector, and Carver was left unable to stop it. Before he could reach his family, Dylan and Damara were turned into Necromorphs, and he was forced to kill them both.
Carver and Isaac Clarke afterward entered the fallen ship and restored its life support. On a lower deck Carver found a miniature toy soldier sitting before a Red Marker. Against Isaac''s warning he picked it up to study it and suddenly heard his son''s voice asking, "Why did you do it?" After the two fought off the Necromorphs that swarmed them, Isaac asked Carver what the Marker had shown him, but Carver would not answer.
Later, on the frozen world of Tau Volantis, hallucinations of Damara led Carver into an archaeology warehouse where visions of his wife, his son, and Dylan''s scattered toys haunted him. Party streamers hung throughout the complex bore guilt-ridden messages such as "Daddy hates me," "Dead inside," and "Happy Birthday, Dylan," and a giant cake stood among them, each reminder driving home everything he had lost.
