Henry Wandrei was a security technician on the penal colony of Aspera who was present during the activation of Marker 2A and the outbreak that followed in the late 23rd century. He was the lifelong friend of Jensi Sato and aided him in the long search for his brother Istvan Sato.
Friendship with Jensi Sato#
Henry Wandrei grew up with his family in a middle-class dome on Vindauga. At fifteen he first met Jensi Sato, whom he quietly took to following around until the two became friends. Some months later, once Jensi trusted him enough, Jensi told Henry about his brother Istvan. When Jensi struggled to describe his apartment, Henry suggested he simply show it to him, and the pair went to the Mariner Valley compound, where they ran into Istvan in a crazed state. Istvan nearly killed Jensi before calming down and being briefly introduced to Henry. Shaken by what he had seen, Henry tried to convince Jensi to cut ties with his brother, but his attempts failed.
Henry kept at it, following Jensi and trying to talk him out of helping Istvan. Noticing that Jensi was eating less, he began giving him food, though he knew most of it was going to Istvan, and before long he was coming along to see Istvan himself. He later witnessed Istvan force his way into Jensi's foster home, raid the fridge, assault Jensi's foster mother, and scream at them before leaving. Henry told the police that Istvan was Jensi's brother, against Jensi's wishes, but refused to elaborate. It was largely thanks to Henry that Jensi kept the life he had, as Henry helped calm Jensi's foster mother and kept her from sending him back to the foster agency.
The assassination of Tim Fischer#
Three years after his last encounter with Istvan, Henry used his family's money to get into an off-world university, only to flunk out a year later and end up in the same technical college as Jensi. He spoke of himself as a family failure, saying his relatives could hardly stand to look at him, and took up work as a picker before returning to training on the family's money once more.
Jensi later contacted Henry to say that Istvan had visited him and spoken of becoming famous by fulfilling his purpose. Fearing Istvan meant to do something drastic, the two set out to stop him. They worked out that he planned to crash a public event and, finding four large events scheduled for the day, split up to cover them all. Despite their efforts, Istvan fulfilled his purpose and assassinated councilman Tim Fischer. Henry comforted Jensi and, while Jensi slept, learned that Istvan had not actually been arrested. He had his father reach an acquaintance on the police force, but the only word he got was that Istvan had been briefly held before being taken away by the Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces. Soon after, Henry went to work off world, meaning to make some quick capital so he could invest in real estate on his return.
The outbreak on Aspera#
In time, Henry Wandrei was working as a security technician on Aspera, the site of a penal colony and a research station. When the site's Red Marker, Marker 2A, activated, the destruction of both the penal colony and the research station became inevitable. The penal colony was overrun by Necromorphs, and Henry alone survived, locking himself in a control room as the creatures spread. He was eventually found by Jensi Sato, Istvan's brother, who had come searching, and the two made their way toward the research station.
