By Joe Garratt

Supply Depot 212 was a Sovereign Colonies storage facility built into the mountainside rock of Tau Volantis. It served as one of the sector's primary stockpiles of food and ammunition until the Marker signal turned its garrison against itself, and it was found two centuries later by Isaac Clarke as a ruin of murdered, crucified soldiers.

History#

Supply Depot 212 was a standard storage facility built into the mountainside rock of Tau Volantis from the usual Sovereign Colonies materials of concrete and steel. Operating under Sergeant Lumley and a soldier named Russo, it was one of the primary stockpiles of food and ammunition in the sector, particularly for the RS 9 Waystation and the surrounding Hospitality Units 211 and 213 and Radio Tower RS 10. Built alongside the primary dig site and completed on October 11, 2311, the depot supported Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces operations in conjunction with shuttle flights.

Operations were interrupted just two days later by the loss of the CMS Franklin. After the shuttle's crew were recovered and temporarily placed in the depot pending evacuation, the Marker interference caused the garrison to hallucinate and deteriorate. Sergeant Lumley eventually succumbed to Marker Dementia, destroying the food stockpile by October 24 and murdering and crucifying his subordinates throughout the bunker.

A team under Sergeant George Cochran was sent from RS 9 to investigate the stockpile, but Cochran soon succumbed to the Marker signal coming from within the facility and turned on his partner after the man realized all the food had spoiled. With the supply line cut, the waystation's platoon from the 41st Engineering Brigade went hungry, and in time turned to cannibalizing infected flesh and became Feeders. The whole sector was eventually abandoned, and the perimeter was tightened back toward headquarters. Two hundred years later, after crash-landing on Tau Volantis, Isaac Clarke recovered a key to the depot and explored it, finding the bound bodies, the spoiled cache, and the recorded logs of the soldiers who had died there before withdrawing with the remaining supplies.

Layout#

Supply Depot 212 was a standard Sovereign Colonies facility, burrowed into the mountain rock and shored up with cast concrete. Most of it took the form of elongated transit tunnels wide enough for the SCAF tractors that moved through them, with storage and expansion space set along the walls and catwalks. Numerous chambers branched off the tunnels to provide room for storage, workshops, disposal facilities, and administrative offices, a layout shared by other Sovereign Colonies storage facilities across Tau Volantis. The depot opened directly onto the snow plains beside Waystation RS 9 through a reinforced entrance that could be opened only with the Supply Depot Key.
