Swarm Infector
The Swarming Reanimator Necromorph
The Swarm Infector was a small, crustacean-like Necromorph that hunted in droves, burrowing into corpses to reanimate them en masse. Encountered during the events on Tau Volantis, it combined the roles of the Infector and the Swarmer into a single creeping swarm.
The Swarm Infector was a small Necromorph that attacked not as one creature but as a swarm, scuttling across the ground in numbers and burrowing into the dead to bring them back. It combined the work of two earlier forms, the Infector and the Swarmer, and a single swarm could raise several corpses at once into a sudden wave of Necromorphs. The form was among those encountered during the disaster on Tau Volantis.
Form#
The Swarm Infector was not a single body but a mass of small creatures that strongly resembled scuttling crustaceans or arachnids. Where earlier outbreaks had relied on the lone Infector to reanimate the dead and on the Swarmer as a small consuming pest, the Swarm Infector filled both roles at once. The creatures were remarkably pliable, seeming to share traits with octopi: they could squeeze their bodies down to a smaller size and slip through narrow cracks and holes.
Behavior#
The swarm's chief purpose was to reanimate the dead. On encountering a body it rushed toward it in numbers and burrowed inside, converting the corpse into a new Necromorph, most often a Fodder and less commonly a Slasher. Because the swarm could spread itself across several bodies at once, it was able to raise a wave of Necromorphs in a short span of time. A single member could carry out the process alone if left undisturbed. When a freshly raised body was destroyed, the swarm simply moved on to the next corpse within reach and began again.
Deprived of usable bodies, the Swarm Infector turned on the living. It latched on and fed, and if it overwhelmed its victim it crawled over them until one of its number forced its way beneath their helmet or into their mouth. The host would collapse, and then rise again as a Fodder, joining the ranks of the dead the swarm had been raising.
Frequently asked questions
- What was a Swarm Infector?
- The Swarm Infector was a small Necromorph that operated as a swarm of crustacean-like creatures. It filled the role of both the Infector and the Swarmer, rushing in numbers to nearby corpses and burrowing into them to reanimate them as new Necromorphs.
- What did the Swarm Infector turn corpses into?
- A reanimated body became either a Fodder or a Slasher, with Fodder being the more common result. By converting several bodies at once, a swarm could raise a wave of Necromorphs in a short time.
- What happened when a Swarm Infector had no corpses to use?
- Deprived of usable bodies, the swarm turned on the living instead, latching on and devouring its victim. If it overwhelmed a person it would crawl over them until one of its members forced its way inside, killing the host and reanimating them as a Fodder.

Fodder
The Fodder, also called the Waster, was a Necromorph form that kept the full appearance of its human host to pass as a living person before it struck. It appeared during the outbreaks on the New Horizons Lunar Colony and on Tau Volantis.
Infector
The Infector was a winged Necromorph whose sole purpose was to convert corpses into new Necromorphs, stabbing a proboscis into the skull to inject infectious tissue. Often the first form created by a Marker signal, it acted as an accelerant that spread an outbreak across a population of the dead.
Necromorph
Necromorphs were aggressive creatures formed when the Markers' electromagnetic signal reshaped dead tissue into monstrous new forms. Driven to kill the living and gather corpses for Convergence, they were the recurring plague that destroyed the Aegis VII colony, the USG Ishimura, and Titan Station.
Slasher
The Slasher was the most common form of Necromorph, reanimated from a single human corpse and named for the blade-like protrusions of bone that grew from its arms. Weak alone but lethal in numbers, it was the form survivors encountered most often in every major outbreak.
Swarmer
The Swarmer was the smallest of the Necromorphs, a scrap of reanimated flesh that attacked in great numbers. Swarmers spilled from ruptured Pregnants and other corpses, latching onto victims to overwhelm them in seconds.
Tau Volantis
Tau Volantis was a frozen planet in the HR 8799 system where, two million years ago, an alien civilization flash-froze their own world to halt a Convergence Event. Mistaken for the Marker homeworld, it became the site of the final clash over the Brethren Moons.
