Unitologist Soldiers

Foot soldiers of the Circle

The Unitologist Soldiers were the foot soldiers of the Circle, fanatically loyal to Jacob Arthur Danik and the Church of Unitology. They fought to free the Markers on Tau Volantis, and many fell to the same Necromorph plague they had hoped to unleash.

The Unitologist Soldiers were the foot soldiers of the Circle, the militant arm of the Church of Unitology, and they were fanatically loyal to Jacob Arthur Danik. Well armed and drawn from the Circle's millions, they carried out its war to free the Markers on Tau Volantis, and many of them ended as the very Necromorphs they had hoped to set loose upon humanity.

Loyalty and organization#

The Unitologist Soldiers served as the rank and file of the Circle, the militant sect that broke from the wider Church to wage open war for the Markers. They were fanatically loyal to Danik and to the Church, and Circle members were issued their equipment according to their rank and position. Even their armor and clothing carried the faith made visible, marked throughout with Marker symbols.

Variants#

The most common were the light infantry, who wore black or white suits, or paler, light-colored versions when fitted out for snow. They carried SCAF-pattern Bullpup Rifles along with hand grenades and Stasis grenades, and on rare occasions a soldier bore a Hydraulic Eviscerator fixed to his rifle for close work.

Suicide bombers were far rarer, charging from a distance with a primed grenade held aloft, shouting "One mind, one body!" and other creeds of Unitology as they closed in. They appeared to be drawn from the light infantry and may have been wounded men for whom the attack was simply the fastest end.

The heavy infantry came in two forms. The shotgunners wore almost entirely black suits with a skull-like design painted on the face mask, more heavily armored than the light troops. The second carried a customized rocket launcher built from a modified heavy frame, a survey charge, and a directed suspension-field tip, recognizable by the orange beams cast from that tip, with a rocket holster slung across the back.

War against the Necromorphs#

Despite their devotion to the Markers, the Unitologist Soldiers fired on any Necromorph they encountered, and the creatures turned on them with the same fury they showed any survivor. When caught up in a battle against the Necromorphs, the soldiers were torn between engaging human intruders and fending off the creatures around them. Their faith offered them no protection from the plague: when killed in the presence of Swarm Infectors or Creepers, their bodies were commonly reanimated into Fodders, Shamblers, or Slashers, and the conversion of the Circle's own ranks into Necromorphs was a frequent sight in the campaign on Tau Volantis.
