Ashley Graham is the US President's daughter, kidnapped by a Spanish cult and infected with a mind-control parasite so she could be sent home as its puppet. Leon S. Ashley Graham is the daughter of the President of the United States and the person Leon S. Kennedy is sent to rescue in Resident Evil 4. The cult Los Iluminados kidnapped her in autumn 2004 and planted a Las Plagas parasite in her, planning to send her home as a sleeper who would do their leader's bidding. Who is Ashley Graham?#
Ashley is a college student and the daughter of President Graham. In autumn 2004 she vanished on the way home from college. The government traced her to a remote part of Spain and sent one agent to find her: Leon, the Raccoon City survivor now working for the White House. (Resident Evil 4)
Why the cult kidnapped her#
Los Iluminados worshipped the Plagas, ancient parasites that make their hosts obey a master. Their leader, Osmund Saddler, wanted influence in America, and the President's daughter was the way in. Krauser carried out the kidnapping to earn Saddler's trust. Once in Spain, Ashley was injected with a Plaga egg and kept in the church while it grew. A cult document lays out the bigger plan: send infected people back into positions of power in America and use them to control the country. (Resident Evil 4)
The rescue#
Leon reached the church and found Ashley locked in a room inside, frightened and at first sure he was one of her captors. Before they could leave, Saddler appeared. He told them that both of them now carried his parasite and that he'd soon have the President's daughter doing whatever he said. (Resident Evil 4)
From there it was a long run. Leon got her through the village and into the castle of Ramon Salazar, a devotee of Saddler, who split them up with traps and took her more than once. At one point she was on her own in the castle, getting past animated suits of armour to reach Leon. In the end Salazar had her sent on to Saddler's island. (Resident Evil 4)
On the island Leon found her in a cell, only for Saddler to take control of her parasite and walk her away. Leon caught up with her strapped down in a container, got her to Luis's lab, and the two took turns in a machine that killed their Plagas with radiation. (Resident Evil 4)
How Ashley's story ends#
After Leon killed Saddler, Ada Wong left them the key to a jet ski and set the island to blow. Leon and Ashley rode out through the caves as it exploded. On the water, Ashley asked who Ada was, and Leon said she was a part of him he couldn't let go. Then she invited him round for some "overtime", and he politely said no. (Resident Evil 4)
Resident Evil 4 is still her only game, in either version. Her father is still in office in the Netflix series Infinite Darkness, set in 2006, and a photo of Ashley appears there. (Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness)
How the remake changes Ashley#
The 2023 remake keeps the same route and the same ending beats, but Ashley is a different character to play alongside. She's frightened and honest about it, and she still pushes on. (Resident Evil 4 (2023))
- She feels the parasite. She coughs up blood after the fight at the cabin, and Luis explains what it means and promises a way to slow it down. Her condition gets worse as the story goes on. (Resident Evil 4 (2023))
- Saddler takes her over. In the castle the Plaga briefly turns her against Leon. Later, on the island, Saddler makes her point a gun at him. She fights his control, shoots his followers instead, and the gun jams before she can be made to shoot Leon. (Resident Evil 4 (2023))
- She saves Leon. Her solo chapter in the castle is longer and darker. Armed with only a lantern, she gets past the suits of armour and frees Leon from a trap. (Resident Evil 4 (2023))
- She's harder to lose. She has no health bar. Hurt, she's knocked down and Leon has to pick her up, and she always follows him rather than waiting behind. (Resident Evil 4 (2023))
