Daggoth
the Overmind's Right Hand
Daggoth was one of the Overmind's greatest cerebrates and master of the Tiamat Brood, the largest and most powerful brood in the Swarm. After the Overmind fell, he took command of the surviving cerebrates and built a Second Overmind, perishing when Kerrigan destroyed them.
Daggoth was the right hand of the Overmind and one of its greatest cerebrates, master of the Tiamat Brood, the largest and most powerful brood within the Zerg Swarm. He served the Overmind with ferocity and valor, and was among the strongest-willed of the cerebrates, often advising and even issuing orders to his fellows on how best to serve their maker. To support his operations he commanded the Hunter Killer, a special and powerful breed of hydralisk.
Right hand of the Overmind#
Like all cerebrates, Daggoth was created to help the Overmind keep control over the zerg broods, but he stood apart as one of the most powerful and strong-willed of them. As master of the Tiamat Brood, the largest and most formidable in the Swarm, he often advised the other cerebrates and issued them orders on how best to serve the Overmind, and he could call upon the Hunter Killer, a special breed of hydralisk, to support his own operations.
The Great War#
Though no full account of his activities survives, Daggoth is known to have given considerable aid and counsel to the newest cerebrate of the Swarm, created partway through the Great War, and to the newly infested Sarah Kerrigan in her first days within the Swarm. He taught the young cerebrate how to build a colony on Tarsonis and lent it a few Hunter Killers to carry Kerrigan's chrysalis away to Char, and after General Edmund Duke's attack on Char to reclaim her was repelled, Daggoth ordered the cerebrate to hold its position while he gave chase. When the Queen of Blades awoke and set out to undo the ghost conditioning that bound her powers, infiltrating the science vessel Amerigo, Daggoth again provided Hunter Killers to aid her.
When the cerebrate Zasz was slain and the Overmind was paralyzed by the Dark Templar Zeratul, Daggoth filled the void, issuing the commands needed to keep the Swarm functioning, ordering the destruction of Zasz's Garm Brood, and sending his own forces against the offending protoss. Upon the Overmind's recovery and its revelation of Zeratul's involvement, Daggoth devised a plot to destroy the Dark Templar, using Kerrigan as a lure while the junior cerebrate's forces moved to surround them. He oversaw the operation by watching the placement of the overlords that could detect the cloaked enemy, ensuring they never strayed far enough to let the Dark Templar escape; the mission succeeded, though Zeratul survived. Daggoth then went with the bulk of the Swarm in its invasion of Aiur, monitoring the retrieval of the khaydarin crystals and declaring, once they were claimed, that all would tremble before the might of the Swarm.
The Brood War and the Second Overmind#
After the Overmind's death, Daggoth took command of the surviving cerebrates. Because cerebrates were not designed to exist without their creator, he felt compelled to rebuild it, and ordered several of his fellows to merge into a Second Overmind near the powerful Khalis crystal. The new entity was immature and unable to properly command the Swarm, but Daggoth and his cerebrates retained control of several broods, forming the faction that Sarah Kerrigan called the Renegade Swarm, which at its height held roughly half or more of the zerg.
The United Earth Directorate later seized control of the Second Overmind and enslaved much of the Swarm as its Slave Broods. In response, Kerrigan formed an alliance and coerced Zeratul into helping to slay the Second Overmind. With it destroyed, Kerrigan quickly killed the remaining cerebrates, and Daggoth did not survive past the Second Overmind's destruction.
