Alex Boxman

refugee child aboard the Galactica

Alex "Boxey" Boxman was a child who survived the Fall of the Twelve Colonies after being evacuated from Caprica by Raptor. Living alone among the Galactica's crew, he unknowingly carried explosive residue across the ship before the sabotage of its water tanks.

By Joe Garratt

Alex "Boxey" Boxman was a child refugee of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. The son of a Colonial Fleet officer who died immediately before the attacks, he was evacuated from Caprica and taken aboard the Galactica, where he lived among the crew in the first weeks after the Fall.

Escape from Caprica#

Boxman was near Delphi when the Cylon nuclear bombardment of Caprica began. Along with his mother and many others, he fled into the fields outside the city. When the refugee convoy spotted a Raptor landing nearby, the survivors flocked to it and negotiated for rescue. Only the children and a handful of adults were chosen to be evacuated, and Boxman was among them. His father, an officer in the Colonial Fleet, had died immediately before the attacks.

Life aboard the Galactica#

For the next several weeks, Boxman lived alone aboard the Galactica, where he quickly made friends among the crew. He deduced that Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii was in a relationship with Chief Galen Tyrol, and was willing to keep others away while the two were together.

On one occasion he took a towel from Valerii's duffel bag, unaware that it was covered in powder residue from G-4 explosives. He carried the towel across the ship to fetch a bottle of ambrosia from engineering to share with the pilots. The crew overlooked the incident at the time, and Boxman, a child, was in no position to connect the residue to the subsequent sabotage of the Galactica's reserve water tanks.
