Algae planet

doomed world of the Thirteenth Tribe

The algae planet was a habitable world orbiting a dying star, briefly settled by the Thirteenth Tribe and later sought by human refugees for its algae before a supernova destroyed it.

By Joe Garratt

The algae planet was a world habitable for human life that became a way station for two journeys separated by thousands of years. Briefly settled by the Thirteenth Tribe on their road to Earth, it was later sought by human refugees from the Cyrannus star system for its abundance of algae before a supernova destroyed it.

The Thirteenth Tribe#

The algae planet orbited a dying star near a stellar cluster, which placed it at risk of being destroyed in a supernova. Despite this, it was briefly settled by the Thirteenth Tribe, who built a temple within a mountain to observe a supernova some 13,000 light years away, in what later became the Ionian nebula. After an unknown length of settlement, the Thirteenth Tribe continued onward to eventually settle on Earth.

Destruction#

Around the year 2002, roughly 3,600 years later, the algae planet was visited by human refugees from the Cyrannus star system, who desperately needed the world for its abundance of algae. During this visit a standoff ensued with a Cylon Basestar searching for the temple as a roadmap to Earth. Hours into the standoff, the nearby star went supernova, destroying the algae planet.
