Battlestar Yashuman

flagship of the Caprica defense patrol

The Yashuman was a Valkyrie-class battlestar of the Colonial Fleet that led Caprica's orbital defense patrol at the time of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. She detected the incoming Cylon basestars but was crippled by the Command Navigation Program exploit before she could mount her attack run.

By Joe Garratt

The Yashuman was a Valkyrie-class battlestar in service with the Colonial Fleet during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. She served as the flagship of Caprica's orbital defense patrol, a formation of three Valkyrie-class battlestars arranged in the standard Colonial pattern. When the Cylons attacked, she detected the incoming basestars but was disabled by the Command Navigation Program exploit before she could engage them.

Design#

The Yashuman was a Valkyrie-class battlestar, a line much smaller than the Jupiter-class capital ships of the First Cylon War. Unlike her newer sister ships, she was a Flight I Valkyrie-class vessel and lacked the distinctive spoiler-like structure mounted on the upper engine assembly of the later builds.

The defense of Caprica#

At the time of the Fall, the Yashuman served as the flagship of Caprica's orbital defense patrol, a force of three Valkyrie-class battlestars arranged in the standard Colonial defensive formation. Minutes before Zero Hour, the Yashuman detected several Cylon basestars in orbital grid 15-2 and relayed the contact to Caprica Control. She was informed that the Cylons had already infiltrated Colonial systems and that Caprica Control's DRADIS was down, so she initiated an attack run on her own authority, without orders.

Seconds later, the Yashuman's own Command Navigation Program was infiltrated, leading to total system failure. With her systems dead, she was presumed destroyed shortly afterward in the destruction of Caprica's defense patrol.
