Felix Gaeta

tactical officer and mutineer

Felix Gaeta was a skilled tactical officer aboard the Battlestar Galactica who served as William Adama's Officer of the Watch for years before the Fall. His objection to the fleet's alliance with the Cylons led him to lead a mutiny that ended in his execution.

By Joe Garratt

Junior Lieutenant Felix Gaeta was a skilled and capable officer of the Colonial Fleet who served aboard the Battlestar Galactica. For three years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies he served as William Adama's Officer of the Watch, his attention to detail making him one of the most relied-upon members of the senior crew despite his junior rank. His later objection to the fleet's deepening alliance with the Cylons drove him to lead a mutiny that cost him his life.

Service aboard Galactica#

Gaeta's efficiency and attention to detail led Adama to rely heavily on him as a member of Galactica's senior crew, despite his junior rank and relative youth. Beyond his duties as a tactical officer, he performed navigational functions, calculated and initiated the ship's jumps, managed the FTL drive, and oversaw the battlestar's primary computer systems. Before the Cylon attack he had been studying genetics, intending to complete a degree through the military extension program.

During the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Gaeta worked alongside Dr. Gaius Baltar to confirm that the CNP, the Command Navigation Program, had in fact been infiltrated by the Cylons, after which orders were given to disable the networking on the Vipers and Raptors arriving at Ragnar Anchorage.

The mutiny#

Following the fleet's discovery and abandonment of the ruined original Earth, and the controversial decision to install Cylon FTL technology aboard every ship in the fleet, Gaeta turned against the leadership. Using his central position in CIC, he led a mutiny aboard Galactica, staging a coup against President Laura Roslin in collaboration with Vice President Tom Zarek. Zarek promoted Gaeta to Commander and commanding officer of Galactica, a post he held only briefly before Adama regained control of the ship. For his part in the coup, Gaeta was executed by firing squad.
