Shelly Godfrey

the Cylon who framed Baltar

Shelly Godfrey was a humanoid Cylon of the Number Six model who infiltrated the refugee fleet aboard the Olympic Carrier. Posing as a defence worker, she manufactured forged evidence in a plot to discredit Gaius Baltar, and was airlocked by her own kind after she failed to kill him.

By Joe Garratt

Shelly Godfrey was a humanoid Cylon of the Number Six model who became part of a plot to discredit Dr. Gaius Baltar.

Infiltration#

Godfrey set out to infiltrate Colonial society, though it is uncertain what she did during this period. It is possible that she connected herself at some point to become aware of the experiences of the other Sixes, such as Caprica Six. Although she would later claim to be a defence department worker, this may have been entirely a fabrication.

Godfrey escaped the fall of the Twelve Colonies aboard the Olympic Carrier, a passenger liner that was in orbit over Canceron at the time. While aboard, she became aware of Dr. Amarak and his suspicion that the Command Navigation Program written by Baltar had been hacked. When the Olympic Carrier escaped the Cyrannus Star System in the refugee fleet, Godfrey moved onto Galactica, where she joined a cell under the command of the Cylon known as Galactica Cavil to plan acts of violence.

The plot against Baltar#

When word spread that Baltar had engineered a Cylon detector which had exposed a Number Five, Godfrey used her knowledge of Amarak to approach him. She held the advantage because Baltar could not explain why she might be a Cylon without exposing his relationship with Caprica Six. With a hastily doctored photograph that appeared to show Baltar carrying a bomb into the defence mainframe building on the day before the attack, Godfrey, now posing as Amarak's assistant, secured a direct meeting with President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama. The evidence appeared plausible, but it required confirmation by Lieutenant Felix Gaeta.

During the wait, Godfrey fell under the suspicion of Adama, who ordered marines to watch her in case the affair was a deception. Baltar confronted her directly, and despite her superior strength she was unable to focus her abilities to push him away because of her feelings for him. The evidence was soon confirmed to be a forgery, and the marines were ordered to detain her.

Fate#

As she was walking down a causeway, Godfrey was dragged away by Galactica Cavil, who used another Six as a diversion to give the impression that she had simply vanished. Angry at her failure to kill Baltar when she had the chance, Cavil rejected her wish to remain in the fleet under a new disguise and forced her through an airlock, with the sole command that she alert the Cylon fleet to the fleet's location. Godfrey's exposure made the Number Six model known to the fleet as a recognised Cylon model, a fact that later forced another Six, Gina Inviere, to alter her appearance to evade detection.
