The Breakaway#

Urlghduj

Avak had spent years as a hired enforcer for the Dark Hunters, following orders, taking what he was given, and asking nothing. The life was hollow. When ZaktanZaktanMutated Skakdi leader of the Piraka, formerly a Dark Hunter whose body was dissolved into a colony of Protodites by the Shadowed One and reformed with its consciousness intact. approached him with a pitch for something bigger, Avak saw the escape route clearly: join five other SkakdiSkakdiA brutish warrior species from Zakaz whose pair-dependent elemental powers and moral void made them one of Bionicle's few irredeemable factions., operate independently, steal the Mask of Life. No hierarchy. No one telling him what to do. In BIONICLEBIONICLE: Matoran AdventuresA 2002 GBA platformer where you play as one of six Matoran fighting Bohrok across Mata Nui's islands. Legends 1: Island of Doom, he expresses defiance about the break, dismissing the Toa and declaring that the PirakaPirakaSix rogue Skakdi mercenaries who broke from the Dark Hunters to hunt the Mask of Life on Voya Nui. were thieves and killers who would become rulers once they possessed the Mask of Life. He asserts that neither the Toa nor the Dark Hunters could stop them, and that the era of taking orders was ending.

The Architecture of Restraint#

What set Avak apart from his crewmates wasn't brute strength. It was specificity. While VezokVezokThe Beast was a Piraka thief split in two by the Spear of Fusion, then imprisoned by the Order of Mata Nui. corrupted and ReidakReidakA sadistic Skakdi thug who traded the Dark Hunters for the Piraka and paid the price. smashed, Avak's eyebeams did something other SkakdiSkakdiA brutish warrior species from Zakaz whose pair-dependent elemental powers and moral void made them one of Bionicle's few irredeemable factions. couldn't replicate: they constructed prisons out of solid stone. Not just walls. Perfect confinement. Once sealed, they were unbreakable. For a heist crew targeting a relic as powerful as the Mask of Life, having a member who could neutralize threats by trapping them was invaluable. His limited Stone element powers added mobility options in rocky terrain, but the real asset was control. Avak was the lock to the group's plans, the failsafe when violence wasn't an option. He kept enemies contained while the rest of the crew moved freely. That was his value.
