The Kestora's restorative function ceased to work properly after an incident involving the Matoran GaardusGaardusA Matoran turned living weapon by exiled Nynrah Ghosts, Gaardus outlived his tormentors and the fall of the Matoran universe, only to be blamed for the Red Star's failure and pressed into service as a reluctant teleporter., and the Star's teleportation systems were damaged so that those it repaired could no longer be returned to the Matoran Universe. When the warrior BotarBotarThe Order of Mata Nui's teleporting enforcer hunted universe-threatening dangers and locked them in the Pit until a Makuta's magnetic power stopped him cold. was killed, his body was teleported to the Red Star, where the Kestora implanted his consciousness inside a new body, but the damaged teleportation systems prevented his return.

In time, KopakaKopakaKopaka was the Toa Nuva of Ice, the loner of the Toa Mata, and one of the six warriors created on Artakha to protect the Great Spirit Mata Nui. and PohatuPohatuPohatu was the Toa Mata and Toa Nuva of Stone, guardian of Po-Wahi, whose speed and steady humour anchored the team through every era of the Matoran Universe. convinced Gaardus to teleport them into the Star, where they encountered a group of Kestora. One of them recognized Gaardus, and the Kestora drew their weapons, identifying themselves as the ones who kept the place operating and accusing Gaardus of being the reason it had not functioned for a very long time. When the Kestora raised their weapons and began to squeeze the triggers, Pohatu disarmed all three of them in an instant.

When TakanuvaTakanuvaHidden among the Ta-Matoran as Takua, the disguised Av-Matoran who became Takanuva was the sole Toa of Light produced in the Matoran Universe's full history. arrived in the city, he found the Kestora fighting against this lone creature; after he was locked out by the Kestora, he created a fireworks show that lured them out, allowing the surviving builder to reclaim the city and lock the Kestora away.
