Kanohi Mask of Intangibility

The KanohiKanohiMasks that grant powers and sustain life, they're the most vital artifact in the Matoran Universe. Mask of Intangibility lets its wearer become intangible by lowering their density, so they can pass through objects and avoid attacks. Writer Greg Farshtey described the mask and named the Toa MangaiToa MangaiThe defenders of Metru Nui before the Toa Metru arrived, a team that fell to betrayal and relentless war. TuyetTuyetA Toa of Water caught in the Order's machinations, Tuyet turned from peer-seeker to rebel-schemer. as its wearer in online answers. Power and function#

Farshtey's online answers set out how the mask works. It lowers the wearer's density until they become intangible, letting them pass through objects and avoid attacks. While intangible the wearer is lighter than air, so they don't sink through the ground and can even drift above it, and they move in silence. He also compared the mask to the density control power of the MakutaMakuta (Species)Shadowy Antidermis beings and the Brotherhood's elite, Makuta commanded darkness and shaped the Matoran Universe's fate., saying it works the same way. In that universe's Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive., a huge monument of the Mask of Intangibility stands in honour of the empire's leader.
