Shadow Traps are small, serpentine creatures created by and utterly loyal to UmarakUmarakUmarak hunted the Elemental Creatures of Okoto until the Mask of Control bound him to Makuta's will and remade him as the Destroyer. the Hunter. They're not impressive to look at: each one's built from gunmetal with colored legs that vary by environment. But they're engineered with brutal purpose. One bite turns the victim over to UmarakUmarakUmarak hunted the Elemental Creatures of Okoto until the Mask of Control bound him to Makuta's will and remade him as the Destroyer.'s side, converting them through corrupted loyalty. Once bitten, there's no coming back.
Design as Weapon#

UmarakUmarakUmarak hunted the Elemental Creatures of Okoto until the Mask of Control bound him to Makuta's will and remade him as the Destroyer. didn't make generic minions. He built Shadow Traps as environment-specific hunters. Each variant is shaped and colored for the terrain it prowls. An Earth Shadow Trap hunts differently from a Water one. This isn't flavor. It's deliberate engineering. They're specialized tools, and specialization means mastery of the job. Their single advantage is total commitment to their purpose: one bite does what they're built to do.
Repurposing and Legacy#
By the time UmarakUmarakUmarak hunted the Elemental Creatures of Okoto until the Mask of Control bound him to Makuta's will and remade him as the Destroyer. evolved into the Destroyer, Shadow Traps had proven useful enough to repurpose. Several of them, particularly the Earth, Water, and Fire variants, were pressed into service to spawn the Elemental BeastsElemental BeastsThree variants of humanoid beast, each grown from a single mutated Shadow Trap by Umarak the Destroyer to occupy the Toa of Okoto.. The creatures went from being hunters to breeding stock for something far larger. UmarakUmarakUmarak hunted the Elemental Creatures of Okoto until the Mask of Control bound him to Makuta's will and remade him as the Destroyer. found new uses for his old weapons, and the Shadow Traps had no choice but to obey.
