Lava Beasts are transformed Fire Traps. They are immune to heat, walk through lava and fire unharmed and hurl balls of flame that leave flash fires behind. The BIONICLE.com story calls them the most aggressive of the Shadow Horde. A group of Lava Beasts destroyed a village in the Region of Jungle before the attack on the city. Storm Beasts are transformed Water Traps. Fierce, fast and impulsive, they shoot lightning, call up tidal waves and bring violent thunderstorms wherever they go. (BIONICLE.com Explore)

The reforming mask#
The beasts' great advantage was that they wouldn't stay down. When the Shadow Horde hit the City of the Mask Makers, the Toa were on the ropes at first because a beaten beast simply reformed. The beasts even stole Tahu's mask for a time. (LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One, "Destroyer's Game")
Once Tahu had his mask back, the Toa found the answer: smash a beast's mask and it stays beaten. That gave them a foothold, and they split into pairs to take on different groups of beasts, Tahu with Kopaka, Gali with Lewa and Onua with Pohatu. (LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One, "Destroyer's Game")
The siege of the City of the Mask Makers#

During the battle Onua broke away to find Ekimu, who told him they had to leave the city and stop Umarak from freeing Makuta. Ekimu then summoned AgilAgilAgil was an Elemental Creature of Light native to Okoto, gold and silver in coloring and armed with talons, who served as the partner of Ekimu., the Creature of Light, and in a chamber of his forge, built atop the Temple of Light, he was transformed into a Toa-sized figure filled with the power of Light. Once the first wave of beasts was beaten, the Elemental Creatures stayed behind to defend the city with the Okotans while the Toa left with Ekimu. From Agil they learned that Umarak had collected the pieces of the Mask of Ultimate Power and was heading to free Makuta, and they set off for the Black Crater. On the way up the dark mountain Umarak had raised there, which the BIONICLE.com story calls the Black Volcano, he summoned more beasts to hold the Toa off. Ekimu fared badly in the fight, but Pohatu channelled the power of his element to beat the force and clear the way. At the summit Makuta sacrificed Umarak to complete his portal, and the Toa united their powers to seal Makuta back in the Shadow Realm, at the cost of being returned to the stars. Beasts and Creatures: the distinction#
The Elemental Beasts shouldn't be confused with the Elemental CreaturesThe Elemental Creatures of OkotoThe six elemental animals of Okoto, partnered with the Toa to recover the Mask of Control, joined by Agil the Creature of Light at Ekimu's side. Part of the 2015 to 2016 reboot continuity.. The Creatures were born with Okoto itself, made from the elements of the world, and became the Toa's partners, uniting with them through the Golden Masks of Unity. In the battle for the city they fought on the Toa's side, and they stayed to hold it against the beasts. - Lava Beasts wrecked a village in the Region of Jungle, then the Shadow Horde attacked the city. The Toa beat the first wave once they learned to smash the masks. Ekimu told Onua they had to leave and stop Umarak freeing Makuta, so the Elemental Creatures and the Okotans took over the defence while the Toa left with Ekimu and Agil.
- What happened to the Elemental Beasts in the end?
- Umarak summoned more beasts on the dark mountain to hold the Toa off, but Pohatu cleared them. Makuta then sacrificed Umarak to finish his portal, and the Toa united their powers to seal Makuta back in the Shadow Realm. The City of the Mask Makers was a city on the island of Okoto, named for the brothers Ekimu and Makuta who dwelt there before the Battle of the Mask Makers. It fell to ruin and became the lair of the Lord of Skull Spiders before the Toa reclaimed it.
