The Legend Continues Matoran
Two Matoran appear in The Legend Continues with no names, but the fandom suspects they're Gadjati and Dosne.
Bionicle's later media left plenty of loose threads, but few are as strange as a pair of unnamed MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. who show up in The Legend Continues with virtually no introduction. They've got masks (a Komau and a Rau), distinctive colors (black and tan), and that's where the confirmed details end. We don't even know their actual names, which for a franchise as obsessively documented as Bionicle feels almost unthinkable. The fandom has its guesses, though, and some of them carry genuine weight.
The Unnamed Pair#
If you've watched The Legend Continues, you know how little information they're given. A pair of MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body., background characters in the post-series film, no dialogue, no explicit identification. The masks tell part of the story. The Komau is the Great Mask of Mind, a utility mask focused on intelligence and problem-solving. The Rau is the Great Mask of Translation, designed for communication across language barriers. Neither is a combat mask. The colors suggest earth and stone associations, which would point to an Onu-MatoranOnu-MatoranEarth-wielding Matoran of the deep who adapted to darkness and built the Matoran Universe's defensive cavalry. and a Po-MatoranPo-MatoranThe Stone-element Matoran of Po-Metru and Po-Koro, carvers and quarry workers, the most athletic of the Matoran types and the population behind the Kohlii and Akilini circuits.. But that's all inference. That fact alone tells you they were resilient enough to survive the whole journey.
The Gadjati-Dosne Theory#
Here's where the speculation begins. The community's leading theory is that these two unnamed characters are actually Gadjati and Dosne, established names in Bionicle canon. If that's true, their appearance in The Legend Continues confirms they made it to Spherus MagnaSpherus MagnaA desert world of ancient conflict that became the merger point of the Matoran Universe and Bionicle's true endpoint.. If it's wrong, they're genuine orphans in the continuity, characters who appear nowhere else. The masks and colors align reasonably well with the theory, and the lack of other plausible candidates has made it the fan consensus. But Bionicle canon never confirmed the match, which is typical of the later media's approach to loose details. Sometimes mysteries get solved years later in Greg Farshtey interviews or supplementary material. Sometimes they stay mysteries. This one's still waiting.
