Geology Sector
Science Division Facility on Tau Volantis
The Geology Sector was a section of the Sovereign Colonies' Facility Two on Tau Volantis, where the Science Division stored its geological research and the frozen bodies of the planet's alien builders before sending them on to the Biology Sector.
The Geology Sector was a section of the Sovereign Colonies' Facility Two, the research base on the frozen world of Tau Volantis. It served the Science Division as the store of its geological research and as a holding place for the frozen remains of the aliens that had built the planet's defenses.
Purpose and layout#
The Geology Sector stored all of the geological research of the Science Division, including the frozen bodies of the aliens that had once inhabited Tau Volantis. These remains were kept in large blocks of ice and were transferred to the Biology Sector by a lift for further study. The sector centered on a large courtyard, an open field filled with the ice blocks and other containers, with a lift beside it carrying cargo up to the round building that overlooked the field.
The interior of the geology building was relatively small. Beyond the entrance lay a large room holding several blocks of frozen aliens, followed by a chamber fitted for heavy bolting work, and finally a specimen-cutting area where workers used laser beams to cut pieces from excavated material. A fragment of the alien code known as Rosetta could be found at the far end of that room.
Connections within Facility Two#
The Geology Sector linked to the rest of Facility Two by several routes. An interior passageway connected it directly to the Biology Sector, though this corridor was inaccessible for reasons that were never recorded. An exterior path ran through a small canyon to an opening below the sector, a catwalk cut into solid ice that joined the Biology and Geology Sectors from outside. In a small open area beside the sector walls, one lift rose to the courtyard while another descended to the Disposal Services. The entrance to the Research Compound Silo lay just next to the Geology Sector.
