Government Sector

EarthGov stronghold and Marker laboratory on the Sprawl

The Government Sector was the fortified EarthGov and CEC district of Titan Station, home to the Project Telomere research that built new Markers from the minds of Marker survivors. It was Director Hans Tiedemann''s last stronghold during the 2511 outbreak before the reactor tore the Sprawl apart.

By Joe Garratt

The Government Sector was the district of Titan Station where the principal EarthGov and CEC facilities stood, most notably the Project Telomere research that studied the Markers. It was the last stronghold of Director Hans Tiedemann and his security forces during the Necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl in 2511.

Project Telomere#

Following the events of 2508, the Government Sector became the home of Project Telomere, a research program devoted to studying the Markers in the hope of turning their advanced technology to other ends, including harnessing the artifacts' limitless energy. Using a specialized machine to draw information from those who had been exposed to Marker 3A, among them Isaac Clarke and Nolan Stross, the staff succeeded in constructing several Markers. Chief among them was one massive Marker that served as the centerpiece of the facility and the focus of its research.

A fortified citadel#

The sector was built like a citadel, and for a time it proved impenetrable even to the Necromorphs. Its interior was layered with heavy security: large numbers of armed guards, military vehicles, numerous checkpoints, and redundant bulkheads. One key feature was shielding meant to keep the Marker signal from reaching those inside and outside the facility, though that protection appears to have failed.

The fall of the sector#

When Isaac and Ellie Langford reached the Government Sector, the area held no Necromorph activity, but the large drill they had used to approach had bored a hole that opened a path for the creatures, with further intrusion held back only by a redundant bulkhead door. After Isaac hacked his way through the sealed door into the compound, Tiedemann's security officers forced him into the main power facility to remove its power cell. With power cut to the redundant bulkhead, the way lay open, and the Necromorph horde led by the Ubermorph swarmed in, killing the security forces and the scientists as the Corruption spread quickly across the district. The Government Sector was finally eradicated when the station reactor overheated and began blowing the Sprawl to pieces. After Isaac escaped Titan Station aboard a gunship, the reactor exploded and destroyed whatever remained.

Frequently asked questions

What was the Government Sector?
The Government Sector was the district of Titan Station where the main EarthGov and CEC facilities stood. It held Project Telomere, the program that studied the Markers and built new ones, and it served as the central government stronghold during the Necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl.
What was Project Telomere?
Project Telomere was a research program housed in the Government Sector that studied the Markers in the hope of using their technology, including their limitless energy. Its staff extracted Marker blueprints from the minds of survivors such as Isaac Clarke and Nolan Stross and used that information to construct several Markers, including one massive Marker at the center of the facility.
How did the Government Sector fall?
Built like a citadel, the sector held off the Necromorphs until Isaac Clarke and Ellie Langford arrived. Forced by Hans Tiedemann's security forces to pull a power cell from the main power facility, Isaac cut power to a redundant bulkhead, letting the Necromorph horde led by the Ubermorph swarm in. The district was finally consumed when the station reactor overheated and exploded.
