Foster Edgars

Foster Edgars was an EarthGov scientist stationed aboard Titan Station, one of the researchers who worked on Project Telomere, the program that mined the minds of Marker survivors to build a new Marker in the station's Government Sector. He oversaw the sessions of both Isaac Clarke and Nolan Stross, and when the Necromorph outbreak tore through the Titan Memorial Medical Center, he lost his mind and took his own life in front of Isaac.

Project Telomere#

Edgars worked aboard Titan Station as one of the scientists on EarthGov's Project Telomere. In the aftermath of the interrogations of the USG O'Bannon crew, he was present during the neutralization of Isabel Cho, and he was charged with the safekeeping of Nolan Stross. He was later told of Isaac Clarke's part in the destruction of Aegis VII and his encounter with Marker 3A, and he was privy to the subsequent cover up of the USG Ishimura and Aegis VII incidents, which were instead blamed on Cho.

On the Sprawl, Edgars oversaw the sessions of both Isaac and Stross as Project Telomere worked to construct a Marker in the Government Sector. He appeared to have influence over how often the two were brought to the machine that extracted the Marker data from their brains and over the memory suppressants used to keep both patients inert.

Conduct toward his patients#

Edgars was harsh with his patients during their sessions, his manner dismissive and arrogant. During one session he assigned Stross to a further round in the Noonlight Diagnostics Machine over the former scientist's protests, after Stross failed to respond in a way that pleased him. In a session with Isaac he interrogated the engineer about his experiences aboard the Ishimura and about Dr. Nicole Brennan.

The Titan Station outbreak#

When the Necromorph outbreak engulfed the Titan Memorial Medical Center, Edgars lost his mind in the chaos. Shortly after Isaac escaped from the Psych Ward, he found Edgars laughing, crying, and muttering, scratching tally marks into the glass beside him with a scalpel, the marks seemingly counting the patients he had killed in the recreation room below. When Isaac approached him hoping for help, Edgars moved with alarming speed, seized him, and held the scalpel to his throat, raving about Hans Tiedemann's order to exterminate the key subjects and asking, "What's one more? Will it matter?"

Isaac tried to talk him down and to be freed from his straitjacket. After a moment Edgars let him go and seemed to briefly recover his senses on noticing that Isaac's RIG was red, pointing him to a cabinet holding a flashlight and a medical pack. When Isaac turned back, Edgars told him that they were all going to burn for what they had done to him, then slowly cut his own throat. Nearby Isaac found a cluster of corpses with their throats slit, apparently Edgars' victims. Later, during Gabe Weller's attempt to reach his wife Lexine in the Psych Ward, the security guard came upon Edgars' body in the same spot, part of its abdomen gone and its legs stripped to the bone.
