CEC Facility: Titan Station's Shipyard and Industrial Complex

The CEC Facility was the Concordance Extraction Corporation's base of operations on Titan Station, the vast city built on the cracked remains of Saturn's moon Titan. A complex of heavy machinery, fuel reserves, and shipbuilding infrastructure, it was dominated by the shipyard and Fuel Storage area where the USG Ishimura sat docked, undergoing a long clean-up operation after the horrors of Aegis VII three years earlier. When the Necromorph outbreak consumed the Sprawl, the facility's own workforce was slaughtered or scattered, and Isaac Clarke, Nolan Stross, and Ellie Langford were forced to flee into its infested halls after the destruction of the Titan Station Transport Hub, fighting through it to reach the Government Sector.

An industrial heart of the Sprawl#

The CEC Facility served as the Concordance Extraction Corporation's center of operations on Titan Station, standing among the station's landmarks alongside the Titan Memorial Medical Center, the Concourse, the Cassini Towers, the Church of Unitology, the Titan Elementary School, and the Solar Array. The complex housed heavy machinery of every description and sophisticated fuel storage installations, and the conditions inside reflected its purpose rather than its workers' comfort. Temperatures in the facility ran high, reaching around seventy degrees centigrade across average operational cycles, and the men and women who labored there did so in punishing heat.

Access was tightly controlled. Employees entered through a security door and lined up for scanning before every shift, filing past checkpoints into the machine halls beyond. The workforce itself was organized into numbered shifts, and among its ranks were heavy equipment operators such as Ellie Langford, a Class IV Heavy Equipment Pilot in the corporation's employ.

The most significant of the facility's structures was the shipyard and the surrounding Fuel Storage area, an expanse of tanks and fuel handling infrastructure that fed the station's industry and gave the complex its most dangerous concentration of volatile material.

The Ishimura's last berth#

The shipyard held one cargo heavier than any other. Sometime during the three years that Isaac Clarke spent interred on Titan Station, the USG Ishimura, the planet cracker lost at Aegis VII, was brought to the Sprawl and docked at the facility, where EarthGov conducted a thorough clean-up and refit operation aboard her, ostensibly to wipe away all evidence of the Necromorph infestation that had annihilated her crew.

The work did not sit easily with those assigned to it. As the Site 12 Marker's influence spread through the station, the technicians responsible for cleaning the Ishimura began to show signs of paranoia, reporting strange noises and the sensation of being stalked through the empty decks. One technician came to believe that the ship was "cursed" and that its presence was a "bad omen" for the Sprawl. By the time the outbreak erupted across Titan Station, the vessel had been mostly restored structurally, but the clean-up effort remained only partially complete, and the great ship still hung at her berth above Fuel Storage when the dying began.

Warnings before the outbreak#

The facility produced one of the quiet omens of the disaster to come. Shortly before the outbreak, the engineer Franco Delille was ordered by his supervisor Weaver to report to the CEC Facility and repair a malfunctioning door, with CPD Officer Sarah Andarsyn, his girlfriend, volunteering to accompany him. On arrival, Franco noted that the supposedly malfunctioning door appeared to have been deliberately tampered with. The pair went on to further repair calls around the station, including computer systems that seemed to have been corrupted with a virus, perhaps sabotaged like the door, small signs of a coordinated hand at work in the station's systems on the eve of the outbreak.

The flight of Shift 1#

When the Necromorphs spread into the facility, its workers abandoned their duties and ran. Ellie Langford, the worker Kaleb, and the rest of Shift 1 fought their way through the complex toward the Government Sector, guiding several workers from Shift 2, among them a man named Sorenson, toward their group and away from the creatures that were overrunning the machine halls. In return, Sorenson urged the other workers to locate Ellie's RIG signal and follow her route to safety.

The group's numbers dwindled as they struggled to find a way out. One by one the workers fell, until only Ellie and Kaleb remained. Kaleb, apparently injured, chose to sacrifice himself, standing as the last line of defense with a Line Gun to buy Ellie the chance to escape. She made it out alone. Kaleb's bloodied body was later found in a chamber of the facility that had become a den of Stalkers and Cysts. Logs left behind by CEC employees throughout the complex recorded what happened as the hordes tore through the facility, a scattered chronicle of the workforce's final hours.

Isaac Clarke's passage and the burning of Fuel Storage#

By the height of the outbreak the CEC Facility had been thoroughly claimed. Rampant strains of the Corruption spread across its structures, Guardians adorned various bulkheads, and Stalkers and Slashers plied the catwalks above the machine floors. Into this ruin came Isaac Clarke, Nolan Stross, and Ellie Langford, driven from the Titan Station Transport Hub by its destruction and seeking a route to the Government Sector, where Director Hans Tiedemann had withdrawn behind the Site 12 Marker's defenses.

The passage cost the facility dearly. In the Fuel Mega Storage area, the Corruption had been shaped into a vast nest built to accommodate Tripods, and the creatures fell upon Isaac as he crossed their territory. Hurling explosive fuel tanks into the growth, he destroyed the nest and its inhabitants, and the battle set the facility's fuel reserves alight, incinerating much of the complex around the shipyard. The destruction freed a monorail line running toward the Government Sector, and Isaac, Ellie, and Stross pressed on along it, leaving the CEC Facility burning behind them.

Destruction#

The facility did not outlive the station it served. When Project Telomere collapsed in catastrophic failure and Isaac Clarke destroyed the Site 12 Marker, Titan Station's unstable nuclear reactor detonated, and whatever remained of the CEC Facility was lost in the blast that consumed the Sprawl. The Ishimura, still berthed at the shipyard she had been towed to for her scrubbing, is presumed to have been destroyed along with the complex, ending the corporation's presence on Titan in the same fire that ended the station itself.
