SK-1P
Two-man orbital ferry of the Tau Volantis flotilla
The SK-1P was a series of small two-man transport craft built for the Wright Andrews Orbital Ferry System, shuttling personnel between starships and the surface. SCAF used them at Tau Volantis, and Isaac Clarke later crossed the derelict flotilla in one nicknamed the Skip.
The SK-1P was a series of small two-man transport craft that formed a main component of the Wright Andrews Orbital Ferry System, a network built to move personnel between starships in orbit over a planet and through tunnels dug below the surface. The Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces operated them at Tau Volantis, and two centuries later Isaac Clarke crossed the derelict flotilla in one nicknamed the Skip.
Design and purpose#
The SK-1P was a small craft built to carry two people, designed as a workhorse of the Wright Andrews Orbital Ferry System. That network moved personnel between starships stationed in orbit over a planet, and it extended into underground tunnels cut specifically for the craft to run through. The same vessel could therefore serve both as a short-range space ferry between ships and as an underground shuttle along a fixed route.
Service at Tau Volantis#
The SCAF used the SK-1P during the investigation of Tau Volantis from 2311 to 2314. The flotilla orbiting the planet relied on the craft to transport maintenance crews and personnel between its ships and the facilities of the planetside colony. After the Necromorph outbreak doomed the flotilla and its planetside research outposts in 2314, the craft were abandoned where they sat. One SK-1P was left docked near the CMS Roanoke, and two more were left underground below the surface.
The Skip and the Fridge#
In 2514, Isaac Clarke and John Carver used an SK-1P they nicknamed the Skip to travel between the derelict ships of the flotilla, carrying out the work needed to make the CMS Crozier spaceworthy so that they could reach the planet themselves. They also used two further vessels of the same series, nicknamed The Fridge, to move between locations beneath the surface. The railway under the planet crossed the entire colony, running from the supply depot all the way to the waste disposal site beneath the Alien City.
Frequently asked questions
- What was the SK-1P?
- The SK-1P was a series of small two-man transport craft that formed a main component of the Wright Andrews Orbital Ferry System, a network for moving personnel between starships in orbit over a planet, as well as through underground tunnels built for the craft to travel in.
- How did SCAF use the SK-1P at Tau Volantis?
- The Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces used SK-1Ps during their investigation of Tau Volantis from 2311 to 2314, ferrying maintenance crews and personnel between the orbiting flotilla and the facilities of the planetside colony.
- What was the Skip?
- The Skip was the nickname Isaac Clarke and John Carver gave to an SK-1P they used in 2514 to travel between the derelict ships of the Tau Volantis flotilla while making the CMS Crozier spaceworthy. Two further craft of the same series, nicknamed The Fridge, carried them between locations beneath the planet's surface.

CMS Crozier
The CMS Crozier was a battered Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces transport shuttle abandoned in the flotilla over Tau Volantis. Repaired by Ellie Langford's team two centuries later, it carried Isaac Clarke down to the planet before breaking apart in the descent.

The Alien Machine was a colossal device built by the ancient inhabitants of Tau Volantis to freeze their world and halt a Convergence Event. Buried beneath a mountain, it held the dead alien city and could be reconfigured by the Codex to crush the planet''s Moon.
Isaac Clarke
Isaac Clarke was a ship systems engineer for the Concordance Extraction Corporation who survived the Necromorph outbreak aboard the USG Ishimura, became a host for the Markers'' replication blueprints, and spent years hunted by EarthGov and the Church of Unitology as he fought to destroy the Markers.

John Carver was an Earth Defense Force sergeant who lost his wife and son to a Necromorph outbreak on Uxor and joined Isaac Clarke on the expedition to Tau Volantis to destroy the apparent source of the Marker signal.
Necromorph
Necromorphs were aggressive creatures formed when the Markers' electromagnetic signal reshaped dead tissue into monstrous new forms. Driven to kill the living and gather corpses for Convergence, they were the recurring plague that destroyed the Aegis VII colony, the USG Ishimura, and Titan Station.
