By Joe Garratt

Colonel Victor "Vic" Bartlett was a security officer on Titan Station and the superior of Gabe Weller. When EarthGov ordered the elimination of the key subjects during the Necromorph outbreak, Bartlett turned on his own men to capture Lexine Weller, and his pursuit of her ended in his death.

Action on the Sprawl#

Little was known of Victor Bartlett before the outbreak beyond his role as leader of Security Team Alpha and the fact that he was its only survivor. He was the first to reach the surface after escaping the mines, and he urged Gabe Weller to flee before the Necromorphs overran him. When Gabe overheard Hans Tiedemann's order to eliminate the key subjects on the station, he contacted Bartlett, who agreed to help him reach his wife Lexine and promised to pick him up in a shuttle and take him straight to the hospital.

When Gabe reached the surface, however, Bartlett attacked him in a gunship. He admitted that he had done so only because Lexine was on the list of key subjects to be terminated, and he did not want Gabe to interfere. After Gabe damaged the gunship, Bartlett broke off and made for the Medical Center, hoping to reach Lexine first.

The Oracle Program and death#

Bartlett monitored Gabe's conversations with Lexine, who was hiding in the ruined hospital, and repeatedly tried to discourage the rescue by revealing details of the Oracle Program and the importance of Lexine's pregnancy to EarthGov. He reached her first by locking onto her signal and captured her, but was immediately incapacitated by two Oracles, who took Lexine and claimed they were acting on orders from an authority higher than Tiedemann. Bartlett was left unconscious on the floor of the hospital's asylum with his RIG blinking red.

Later, while Gabe was trying to open the shuttle bay doors so Lexine could escape, a wounded Bartlett reappeared with the left side of his face badly damaged. Apparently driven mad by the Marker, he tried to take his own life with a grenade and Gabe with it. He only mortally wounded Gabe, and his own proximity to the blast killed him instantly.
