Battle of Giedi Prime
the cymek conquest of a League world
The Battle of Giedi Prime was a brief assault by Agamemnon's cymeks against the League planet Giedi Prime, launched in retaliation for the machine defeat at Zimia. A sacrificial cruiser shattered the planet's shield generators, allowing the Titans to seize the world and install a new Omnius incarnation.
The Battle of Giedi Prime was a brief assault by the cymeks of the Titan Agamemnon against the League planet Giedi Prime, launched in retaliation for the machine defeat at the First Battle of Zimia. Omnius had been willing to pay the price needed to take a world from the League of Nobles, and the attack delivered the planet into machine hands, if only for a time.
Prelude#
Before the attack, spy watcheyes raced through the system like tiny meteoroids, and from their readings Agamemnon found a slight weakness in the planet's defenses. The humans of Giedi Prime, warned of the recent assault on Salusa Secundus, had erected scrambler fields centered on the transmitting towers in Giedi City. The planet was ringed by orbital forces, and the field-generator facility was guarded by kindjal fighter craft, embankments, and armored ground vehicles.
The battle#
The planet's first-line orbital forces were brushed aside by the machine fleet with only minor robotic losses, after which Agamemnon led the cymek ships in alongside a screen of sacrificial cruisers that the ground defenses could not hope to repel. A huge robotic cruiser, its holds filled with explosives, positioned itself above the planet while dozens of others lined up behind a screen of thirty decoy vessels. With its engines at full speed, the explosive-laden cruiser accelerated into the atmosphere faster than any ground-based missile defense could target it. Kindjal fighters engaged the vessel, but it was too large and too hot to be turned aside. The plummeting juggernaut struck the field transmitters on the outskirts of Giedi City, gouging out a crater half a kilometer wide. With the shields neutralized, the robots came down in full force.
Conquest#
The planet was taken easily, without the loss of a single cymek. Agamemnon, wearing his most terrifying machine body, and his companion Barbarossa walked through Giedi City destroying the surrounding buildings while sparing its industries. The two Titans reached the residence of Governor Magnus Sumi, followed by neo-cymeks and marching robotic troops sent to secure the territory. When Magnus refused to bow, Agamemnon swung one of his sleek metal arms to strike the governor in the face, but the blow was so forceful that it ripped the man's torso in half. Barbarossa then dismantled the household's systems and installed a gelsphere mainframe into which he uploaded the newest version of Omnius's mind, while the invasion force shored up the damaged industrial buildings.
Aftermath#
Survivors of the Giedi Prime Home Guard retreated underground to form a resistance, and Pinquer Jibb flew a shuttle to Salusa to alert the League to the planet's fall. The machine victory proved short-lived, for Giedi Prime would be liberated soon afterward.
