Fallout Season 3: Release Date, Cast and What We Know
Fallout season 3 is confirmed and filming, but Amazon hasn't given it a release date yet. Here is what is official: the renewal, when filming started, who is coming back and who is new, and where season 2 left the story.
Fallout season 3 does not have a release date. Prime Video renewed the show in May 2025, filming began in Los Angeles in June 2026, and Amazon says only that the new season will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. Everything below is limited to what Amazon has announced or what the people making the show have said on the record. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
When is the Fallout season 3 release date?#
There isn't one yet. Amazon's own season 3 page, last updated on 19 June 2026, says a release date "is yet to be announced". It hasn't given a month or a year either, so any date you see quoted elsewhere is a guess or a comment from someone on the show, not an announcement. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
What is official is the order of events so far. The renewal came first, announced at Prime Video's upfront presentation in New York in May 2025, months before season 2 premiered. Filming followed in June 2026, in Los Angeles, which is where the story began in season 1. (Fallout season 3 announcement; Fallout, "The End")
Fallout season 3 cast: who's back and who's new#
Amazon confirmed the returning cast in its June 2026 update. Annabel O'Hagan, who plays Steph, and Dave Register, who plays Chet, both move up to series regulars. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Aaron Moten as Maximus. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Walton Goggins as Cooper Howard, the Ghoul. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Moisés Arias as Norm MacLean. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Frances Turner as Barb Howard. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
- Annabel O'Hagan as Steph and Dave Register as Chet, now series regulars. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
Four new names join them: Aaron Paul, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto and Thomasin McKenzie. Amazon hasn't said who any of them play, and nobody involved has said on the record whether they are characters from the games. (Fallout season 3 announcement)
What is Fallout season 3 about?#
The plot hasn't been announced. The closest thing to a hint came from the producers just after season 2 ended. Asked whether the next stop was Colorado, Jonathan Nolan told Collider "Not necessarily Colorado", adding that Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who created the show with Graham Wagner, had been "somewhat ambiguous". (Jonathan Nolan and Todd Howard on season 3; Fallout, "The End")
Todd Howard was asked in the same interview about the giant robot teased at the end of season 2. He said it was something the team had wanted for a long time, and joked that the show had become an excuse to build a giant robot for real. That isn't a confirmation that Liberty Prime appears in season 3, and Amazon hasn't said it does. (Jonathan Nolan and Todd Howard on season 3)
How season 2 ended#
Season 3 picks up threads that the season 2 finale, "The Strip", left hanging. For the full story of both seasons, see the Fallout TV series explained. (Fallout, "The Strip")
- The Legion is united again. The split over who should succeed the dead Caesar ended when the Lacerta Legate proclaimed himself the new Caesar and marched the reunited Caesar's Legion on New Vegas. (Fallout, "The Profligate"; Fallout, "The Strip")
- Hank has lost his memory. Lucy put one of his own control chips in her father. Before setting it off himself, he admitted his ties to the Enclave. (Fallout, "The Strip")
- The Ghoul's family is missing. With Mr. House helping him through the Vault-Tec facility, Cooper reached the cryo pods meant for Barb and his daughter Janey and found them empty, with a clue pointing to Colorado. (Fallout, "The Strip")
- Lucy and Maximus are back together. They reunited in New Vegas as the Legion marched in. (Fallout, "The Strip")
- Phase 2 has begun. In Vault 32, Steph used a Pip-Boy from Hank's box, gave her name as Hank MacLean's wife and asked whoever was listening to "initiate Phase 2". (Fallout, "The Strip")
- The Brotherhood wants a robot. In a mid-credits scene, Dane brings Elder Quintus the plans for Liberty Prime. (Fallout, "The Strip")
Norm also survived. He and Claudia lived through a radroach attack at Vault-Tec's old headquarters that killed the frozen executives who had been holding him. (Fallout, "The Strip")
Where season 3 sits in the timeline#
Both aired seasons take place in 2296, after every game. Nothing official says how much time passes before season 3, though the finale ends mid-crisis, with the Legion entering New Vegas. For how the show's dates fit the games, see when the Fallout TV show is set. (Fallout, "The End"; Fallout, "The Strip")
