Kelly Chambers
Shepard's Yeoman and Counselor
Kelly Chambers was the yeoman aboard the Normandy SR-2 during the Collector crisis, a Cerberus recruit and trained psychologist who monitored the crew's morale and whose conscience eventually drove her from the organization.
Kelly Chambers was the yeoman aboard the Normandy SR-2 during the campaign against the Collectors in 2185, serving Commander Shepard as both an administrative aide and a counselor. A trained psychologist placed aboard by Cerberus, she kept the Commander informed of correspondence and meeting requests while monitoring the psychological state of the crew, and her warmth toward the ship's non-human members set her apart from the organization's reputation.
Yeoman of the Normandy#
Chambers' primary duty was to keep Shepard abreast of incoming messages and to relay meeting requests from the squad. As a trained psychologist she also monitored the morale of the Commander and crew and offered impressions of each new addition to the team. She was identified as a member of the Cerberus Lazarus Cell, but she rejected the notion that the organization, or she herself, was anti-alien; throughout her service she treated the ship's non-human members with the same respect and concern she showed humans. Depending on Shepard's conduct toward her, the relationship between yeoman and Commander could warm into friendship or, for either a male or female Shepard, into romance.
The suicide mission#
When the Collectors abducted the Normandy's crew, Kelly's survival depended on how quickly Shepard pursued them through the Omega 4 Relay. If the Commander delayed, the rescue arrived too late to save her and other crew members from being processed into raw material for the Collectors' work. If Shepard moved at once, Kelly and the rest of the crew were freed from their pods in time, though she carried vivid memories of the ordeal afterward.
Defection and fate#
Had she survived the Collectors and shared a closer bond with Shepard, Kelly could be found months later among the refugees in the Citadel's cargo holds during the Reaper War. She revealed that she had deserted Cerberus after witnessing methods that violated her conscience, and she declined Shepard's offer to rejoin the Normandy, preferring to help the refugees while she coped with nightmares of her abduction. She later confessed to having sent reports on Shepard and the crew to the Illusive Man during her time as yeoman. Her ultimate fate turned on Shepard's choices: how the Commander received her confession, and whether she was urged to take on a new identity. Persuaded to do so, she dyed her hair and lived on as "Felicia Hannigan," surviving the Cerberus attack on the Citadel; otherwise she could be killed when Cerberus struck.
