Corran Horn
the CorSec investigator turned Jedi Master
Corran Horn was a Corellian Security investigator who became a Rogue Squadron ace and New Republic hero before discovering his hidden Jedi heritage. He rose to the rank of Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order and served through the Yuuzhan Vong War and the crises that followed.
Corran Horn was a Force-sensitive Human male from Corellia who lived three lives over the course of his career: a Corellian Security Force investigator, a Rogue Squadron ace and hero of the New Republic, and finally a Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order. Raised in ignorance of his own Jedi heritage, he came late to the Force, but rose to sit on the Masters' Council and helped steer the Order through the Yuuzhan Vong War and the dark times that followed. This entry describes the Legends continuity.
Corellian Security#
Corran Horn was born in 18 BBY, the son of Valin Horn, known to all as Hal, and Nyche Horn. Unknown to Corran for most of his life, his father was the biological son of the Jedi Master Nejaa Halcyon. When Halcyon was killed, the infant Hal was adopted by Rostek Horn, a Corellian Security Force officer and Halcyon's closest friend, who hid all evidence of the boy's Force-sensitive lineage as the Great Jedi Purge began. Corran grew up in Coronet City, knowing nothing of this history or his own latent abilities. As a child he observed his father practicing what he was told were the moves of a secret game, never realizing they were Jedi meditative exercises.
Horn entered the Corellian Security Force Academy straight out of secondary school and excelled, setting new records, many of them previously held by his own father. He became a full CorSec officer around 2 ABY and worked frequently alongside his father on undercover assignments, building a reputation as a gifted young investigator.
Flight from Corellia#
As an Imperial liaison officer named Kirtan Loor came into increasing conflict with him, Horn's position on Corellia grew untenable. After the Battle of Endor he fled his homeworld to escape execution, aided by his CorSec droid Whistler and a set of prepared cover identities. He spent over a year living quietly on the Imperial world of Garqi under the name Eamon Yzalli, serving as aide to a succession of governors, until saving several locals from the Empire convinced him to join the New Republic.
Rogue Squadron#
A superb pilot, Horn joined Rogue Squadron in 6 ABY and rose to flight leader. He fought in the captures of Borleias and Coruscant; in the liberation of the capital he brought down the planet's shields but was captured in the process. He was incarcerated in Ysanne Isard's infamous and hidden Lusankya prison, where he resisted her brainwashing and became the first individual ever to escape it directly.
Hailed as a hero on his return, Horn was angered when the New Republic refused to pursue Isard for political reasons. He led Rogue Squadron in resigning and waging a private war against her regime on Thyferra. During that campaign, the Bacta War, he married Mirax Terrik, the love of his life and the daughter of his father's old rival, the smuggler Booster Terrik. Rejoining the New Republic, Horn continued with the Rogues through the campaigns against Warlord Zsinj and the resurgent Grand Admiral Thrawn, helping to free the prisoners of the Lusankya.
Discovery of the Force#
When Mirax was kidnapped in 11 ABY, Horn realized that to save her he would have to draw on the Jedi talents he had only recently learned were his birthright, Luke Skywalker having uncovered the truth of his Halcyon ancestry. He trained at Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum, where he learned that arrogance and the need to play a role blocked his connection to the Force, and that he served the Force best simply by being himself. He then rescued his wife and defeated the Invid pirate gang.
For years Horn balanced his careers as a pilot and a Jedi, keeping his Force abilities secret from all but his closest comrades among the Rogues. He and Mirax had two children, Valin and Jysella, both of whom proved Force-sensitive. In 19 ABY, after peace was achieved with the Imperial Remnant, he resigned from the squadron with the rank of colonel and turned to teaching at the Praxeum.
The Yuuzhan Vong War#
When the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, Horn played a vital role in the war. He counseled caution against the more aggressive faction led by Kyp Durron, arguing that the Jedi did not yet understand their enemy. Sent on reconnaissance and rescue missions, he confronted the Jedi-hunting voxyn and helped protect the students of the Praxeum aboard Booster Terrik's Star Destroyer Errant Venture.
His most renowned deed came in the defense of Ithor, where he fought a duel against Shedao Shai, the Yuuzhan Vong warrior who had killed his close friend Elegos A'Kla. Horn defeated Shai, but when the Yuuzhan Vong failed to honor the terms of the duel and despoiled Ithor anyway, the shame of it drove him to take a brief leave from the Order. He returned to full service after the Battle of Coruscant, joined the cell of trusted leaders known as the Insiders who carried on the war outside the failing New Republic hierarchy, and helped unlock the mystery of the living planet Zonama Sekot, which proved crucial to ending the war.
Jedi Master#
For his service Horn was elevated to the rank of Jedi Master and took a seat among the leading Jedi on the Masters' Council. He argued for strong relations with the new Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, and during the Dark Nest Crisis in 36 ABY he was temporarily placed in charge of the entire Jedi Order. He established a teaching center in Coronet, training young Corellian Jedi, while his wife Mirax retired to a quiet life in the city.
When Corellia erupted into open war with the Galactic Alliance in 40 ABY, Horn supported the Alliance despite his own Corellian roots, commanding a strike team in the operation against his homeworld. He helped guide the Jedi through the crisis even after they were declared enemies of the state, and saw the Order to victory over Jacen Solo, who had fallen as the Sith Lord Darth Caedus. When Jaina Solo was chosen to confront her brother, Horn helped plan the assault on the Roche system that set the final confrontation in motion.
Family tragedy#
In 43 ABY, a strange Force psychosis began to seize members of the Jedi Order. The affliction struck Horn's family with particular cruelty: both his son Valin and his daughter Jysella succumbed to the madness and were captured and frozen in carbonite by the Galactic Alliance under Chief of State Daala. Horn and Mirax, joined by other senior Jedi, exposed Daala's secret prison to public scrutiny in a confrontation that ended the cruel display of their children, and Horn stood among the Masters as the Order weathered the siege of its Temple. His children were at last freed of the psychosis when Luke Skywalker found and eliminated its hidden source.
