Candore Colony was a settlement on the Terran Dominion world of Candore. It became known for the massacre carried out there by Dominion forces, an atrocity that the regime tried to blame on rebels but that was exposed by independent journalists.
The massacre#
Some of the colonists at Candore provided shelter to the anti-Dominion organization known as the Knights of Freedom, and others spoke out openly against the government they disagreed with. In 2502 a Dominion Marine Corps force led by Major Tom Hawkins descended on the colony. The marines arrested many of the colonists and massacred the rest, all under the nose of embedded reporter Kate Lockwell. The survivors were imprisoned aboard a battlecruiser, and the corpses were stored behind a locked door on the same ship.
The truth uncovered#
A Knights of Freedom team that included renegade reporter Michael Liberty investigated the colony, but could determine only that its people had vanished. Their fate was discovered by Lockwell aboard the battlecruiser, where she filmed the corpses and made copies of the footage, one of which she secretly passed to the Knights. The Dominion publicly claimed that the victims had been massacred by rebels. Knowing the truth, Liberty planned to release the footage on the anniversary of Arcturus Mengsk's inauguration.
