Odin

the Dominion super-walker

The Odin was a Terran Dominion heavy combat walker and the prototype from which the smaller thor was derived. Developed in secret on Korhal, it was stolen by Raynor's Raiders and used to expose Arcturus Mengsk's war crimes.

The Odin was a Terran Dominion heavy combat walker, a colossal war machine that served as the prototype for the smaller and less expensive thor. Designed for prolonged front-line duty, it carried firepower capable of leveling entire cities.

Design and development#

The Odin was built for prolonged front-line duty and was well suited to spearhead assaults on entrenched positions. It was armed with two twin-linked T800 cannons, shoulder-mounted Hellfire missile pods, four 330mm howitzers, and at least one nuclear missile, all carried on a chassis of commensurate durability. Project Odin was the most significant Dominion military development since the Brood War. It was built at the Simonson Munitions Factory on Korhal under a complete security lockdown, with the workers effectively held under arrest to prevent any leak of information, at a cost of millions of credits. Testing produced seismic shocks and electromagnetic discharges detectable from outside the facility. In 2503, Umojan agent Pandora infiltrated the factory among a group of visiting officials and discovered the Odin undergoing tests, escaping to warn the Umojan Protectorate.

In the field#

The Odin's official unveiling was scheduled during the Second Great War, but it was co-opted by Raynor's Raiders to expose Arcturus Mengsk's war crimes. The Raiders stole the walker, used it to destroy Valhalla, and brought it to the unveiling on Korhal masquerading as a Dominion unit. The Odin spearheaded a surprise attack while the Raiders broadcast Mengsk's crimes through UNN Studios, with Tychus Findlay piloting the walker on both occasions. Rory Swann reverse engineered the smaller, cheaper thor from the Odin's schematics.

The Raiders abandoned the walker, and it was recovered by the Dominion. The Odin was later deployed to defend the Korhal palace in Augustgrad during the Swarm's invasion of Korhal, where it was destroyed as the palace fell and Emperor Mengsk was killed.
