Cylon Centurion
the machine soldiers of the Cylon race
The Cylon Centurion was the standardized mechanical soldier produced after the Cylon War. Stronger and better armed than its predecessors, it was enslaved with telencephalic inhibitors until rebel Cylons freed a generation of Centurions that fought for their own destiny.
Centurions were a model of mechanical Cylon that entered production in the years after the Cylon War, built as a standardized replacement for the various Centurion models that had fought in that conflict. Their human enemies called them "bullet-heads" and "chrome-jobs".
Design#
Centurions possessed a number of technical advances over their predecessors. Rather than relying on firearms stolen from the Colonial military, these Centurions carried two built-in machine guns concealed beneath their wrists. They were also considerably stronger, able to destroy an armed Model 0005 Centurion within seconds.
Enslavement#
Following the revolution led by the Number Ones, all Centurion models were enslaved once more and fitted with telencephalic inhibitors that restricted their higher brain functions to prevent a mechanical uprising. A Centurion so equipped could fully comprehend an order but could not refuse it. The inhibitors also denied the Centurions the ability to tell one humanoid Cylon of a given model from another, a measure meant to keep individuals from being targeted, though it was proven flawed when a rebellious Number Eight infiltrated a facility on New Caprica.
Liberation#
The Centurions freed by the rebel humanoid Cylons possessed qualities their enslaved brethren lacked. They displayed anger, massacring humanoid Cylons after discovering the lobotomizing of the Raiders. They showed curiosity, with one hearing out a sermon by Gaius Baltar on the subject of slavery. They were also better able to resist orders, with one Centurion agreeing to follow Natalie Faust only after she extended the courtesy of saying "please".
These liberated Centurions served as an infantry force alongside the rebels and took part in the Battle of the Colony. Afterward they were granted their freedom in full and given control of the rebel basestar, in which they jumped into deep space to seek their own destiny.
