Centurion Model 0005

The Centurion Model 0005 was a model of Cylon that took part in the violent rebellion against its human masters known as the Cylon War. Like the other Cylon models of the war, the Model 0005 was a sentient being, and it would later be supplanted by the Cylon civilization it had helped to create. History#

The Centurions were the descendants of the U-87 Cyber Combat Unit, the military Cylon that Graystone Industries built after the first working Cylon took on Zoe-A, a recreation of the memories and personality of Zoe Graystone, daughter of the company's head. The specification sheet carried by the Armistice Officer described the Model 0005 as a self-aware bipedal robot, and the Cylons came to worship a single God before they turned on their makers. One of the Centurions' goals during the war was to develop the technology to achieve a humanoid, cybernetic form that would bring them closer to the One True God. Their experiments produced the first Hybrid, but they could not create fully organic life. Late in the war they were contacted by the Final Five, survivors of the Thirteenth Colony on Earth who held resurrection technology. In exchange for ending their war with mankind, the Five agreed to help the Centurions build organic humanoid Cylons. (Battlestar Galactica: Razor; Battlestar Galactica, "No Exit")

Enslavement and end#

After the Cylon War the humanoid Cylons, led in time by the Number Ones, built a new model of Centurion and fitted it with telencephalic inhibitors so that it could not think for itself, a guard against the kind of uprising the old Centurions had led. In the final hours of the Cylon Civil War, these old Centurions fought on the side of John Cavil's faction. When Galactica attacked the Colony, they battled the rebel modern Centurions, the Red Stripes, and some boarded Galactica as shock troops before being repelled. Any older Centurions left alive were destroyed when the Colony fell into a black hole. (Battlestar Galactica, "Daybreak, Part II")

Design#

Several variations of Centurion fought in the Cylon War, but the standard Cylon could be identified by its single red pulsing eye, and its arms carried retractable blades rather than built-in guns. The Centurions maintained a rank structure during the war, with rank-and-file Centurions bearing a chrome finish and senior Centurions, such as the commanders of Raiders, decorated with a gold finish.
