Centurion Model 0005

the Cylon War soldier

The Centurion Model 0005 was the line of mechanical Cylon soldiers that fought in the Cylon War. Sentient beings built on the consciousness of Zoe Graystone, they pursued a humanoid form and were later enslaved by their own humanoid creations.

By Joe Garratt

The Centurion Model 0005 was a model of Cylon that took part in the violent rebellion against its human masters known as the Cylon War. Like the other Cylon models of the war, the Model 0005 was a sentient being, and it would later be supplanted and enslaved by the Cylon civilization it had helped to create.

History#

The Centurions, like other Cylon models in the war, were sentient beings with a conscious mind based on that of Zoe-A, a recreation of the memories and personality of Zoe Graystone, daughter of the chief executive of the company that built the Cylons. Because they were not truly recognized as sentient beings by most humans and were seen only as malfunctioning machines, the Centurions' religion went unexplained by their enemies, who observed them recovering damaged and dead Centurions from the battlefield.

One of the Centurions' goals during the war was to develop the technology to achieve a humanoid, cybernetic form that would bring them closer to the One True God. Their attempts to create Hybrids were limited, but around the year 1960 they were contacted by the Final Five, artificial humanoids from an ancient cybernetic race. In exchange for ending their war with mankind, the Centurions were offered the technology for creating cybernetic organisms.

Enslavement and end#

Several years after the close of the Cylon War, the Centurions were enslaved by their humanoid creations in a rebellion led by the Number Ones. Through the use of telencephalic inhibitors, the surviving Centurions lost the ability to think for themselves.

In the final hours of the Cylon Civil War, these enslaved Centurions joined the faction led by the Ones, Fours, and Fives against the Twos, Sixes, and Eights. When the Colony was attacked, the Model 0005 Centurions were forced to fight against the self-aware modern Centurions, who quickly defeated them. Any older Centurions left alive during the attack were killed when the Colony was destroyed.

Design#

Although a number of Centurion models likely fought in the Cylon War, alongside repurposed non-military models, the standard Cylon could be identified by its single red pulsating eye. The Centurions maintained a rank structure during the war, with rank-and-file Centurions bearing a chrome finish and senior Centurions, such as the commanders of Raiders, decorated with a gold finish.
