Monotheist and Blessed Mother
Lacy Rand was a Caprican student who converted to Monotheism in her teenage years and joined the Soldiers of the One. After surviving the unsanctioned MagLev bombing that killed her friend Zoe Graystone, she rose within the movement on Gemenon to become its Blessed Mother.
Lacy Rand was a Monotheist who, in later life, led the Monotheist Church on Gemenon. As a teenager on Caprica she was drawn into the faith by Zoe Graystone and Ben Stark, and she later joined the Soldiers of the One, the terrorist movement whose orbit also included Sister Clarice Willow. Athena Academy and conversion#
Rand attended the Athena Academy in Caprica City, where Sister Clarice Willow was headmistress, and she and her best friend Zoe Graystone used to visit V-World's clubs together. Though the academy's curriculum already had her in polytheist prayer groups, Zoe and Zoe's boyfriend, Ben Stark, persuaded her to join a different kind of group, devoted to the Monotheist God, and she became devout. Rand knew little of Zoe's deeper involvement with the movement, and nothing at first of Clarice's. Only after the bombing did she learn that Clarice was herself a member of the Soldiers of the One. (Caprica, "Pilot")
The MagLev bombing#
Rand knew, at least vaguely, that Zoe had created an avatar of herself, a lasting copy of Zoe inside V-World. The three friends planned to run away from home to Gemenon, where they were told a new family would be waiting. Rand, however, lost her nerve and backed out at the station. As the train pulled away, Stark detonated a bomb aboard the MagLev, killing everyone on it, Zoe among them. (Caprica, "Pilot")
Rise on Gemenon#
After the bombing, Rand helped Zoe's avatar, which ended up in the body of a U-87 robot, and her search for a way to get it to Gemenon led her into Barnabas Greeley's cell. Clarice eventually had her held captive, then sent her on a one-way ticket to Gemenon to train with the Soldiers of the One. There Rand found that the U-87 Cylons guarding the camp would obey her and nobody else. When the movement's leaders ordered her killed, she survived, staged a coup over the leadership of the Monotheist Church and took the position of Blessed Mother. When Clarice later came to Gemenon to ask the church to recognise the Cylons, Rand greeted her with a smile and told her to kneel.
