Lacy Rand
Monotheist and Blessed Mother
Lacy Rand was a Caprican student who converted to Monotheism in her teenage years and joined the Soldiers of the One. After surviving the unsanctioned MagLev bombing that killed her friend Zoe Graystone, she rose within the movement on Gemenon to become its Blessed Mother.
Lacy Rand was a Monotheist and, in her later years, a priestess on Gemenon. As a teenager on Caprica she became a member of the Soldiers of the One, the terrorist organization tied to Zoe Graystone, Ben Stark, and the influence of Sister Clarice Willow. She would eventually rise within the movement to become its Blessed Mother on Gemenon.
Athena Academy and conversion#
Despite an urban upbringing, Rand earned a scholarship to the prestigious Athena Academy located on the outskirts of Caprica City. During her second or third year at the school she was converted to Monotheism by her close friend Zoe Graystone and Graystone's boyfriend, Ben Stark. The three kept their conversion secret from their parents.
Under the indirect pressures of Sister Clarice Willow, of whom Rand was at the time unaware, the three informally joined the Soldiers of the One, a paramilitary movement that had previously carried out bombings on Caprica decades earlier.
The MagLev bombing#
In Rand's third year, Graystone completed work on a computer program capable of constructing a sentient, digitized version of a human being. The three friends planned to run away from home and relocate to Gemenon to live among their fellow Monotheists. Rand, however, lost her nerve and bailed out partway through the plan.
Minutes after she withdrew, Stark detonated a suicide vest aboard a MagLev train, killing Graystone and dozens of others. The bombing was an unsanctioned attack, the product of a split within the Soldiers of the One hierarchy rather than an action ordered by its leadership.
Rise on Gemenon#
In the years that followed, Rand remained within the Soldiers of the One and eventually relocated to Gemenon, the spiritual heart of the movement. There she rose through its ranks to become a priestess and ultimately the Blessed Mother, the figure at the head of the Monotheist faith on the colony.
