By Joe Garratt

Keon Gatwick was a Caprican terrorist affiliated with the Soldiers of the One. A wealthy student converted to Monotheism by Sister Clarice Willow, he became a bombmaker for Barnabas Greeley's militant cell and was killed during an internal feud between Soldiers of the One factions in 1942.

Conversion and the Soldiers of the One#

Coming from a wealthy background, Gatwick became a student at the prestigious Athena Academy outside Caprica City. Under the influence of Sister Clarice Willow he converted to Monotheism, one of several converts at the school, and joined the Soldiers of the One alongside them. At a time of peace, membership in the organization amounted to joining a protest movement against perceived social immorality online. In 1941, however, Barnabas Greeley rejected the peace initiative in favor of terrorism and began radicalizing and recruiting other members. Gatwick joined Greeley with Ben Stark and began practicing with explosives. In 1942 Greeley planned a major attack on Caprica City's Maglev infrastructure, having Gatwick design a suicide vest that Stark used to kill dozens.

Bombings and Lacy Rand#

In the weeks after the Maglev bombing, Gatwick continued carrying out attacks on Greeley's orders, focusing particularly on Holocafes as an expression of the cell's hatred of V-World's perceived decadence. During these operations he drew the attention of Lacy Rand, a fellow Monotheist who had not joined the cell, during a Global Defense Department locker search at the school that forced him to hide his bombmaking materials. The two developed a relationship, and Gatwick sought out Greeley to help Rand smuggle a crate to Gemenon, a task she had been given but could not explain. Disgusted at being asked to commit cell resources to something he was not allowed to know about, Greeley threatened both students' lives, and Gatwick brokered an agreement only on the condition that Rand join the cell.

The car bomb and the feud#

Gatwick and Rand's place in the cell grew more dangerous as time passed, both because of Greeley's threats to execute members and because Gatwick's bombings had drawn the attention of Sister Willow. As she departed for Gemenon to seek authorization to exterminate Greeley's cell, Gatwick planted a bomb in her car designed to be set off by a key fob trigger activated through a phone call. Rand was tasked with swapping the real and trigger fobs by taking Willow's handbag, but was not told the plan until the trip to the spaceport. When she learned of it, she refused to set off the bomb, and Greeley put a gun to Gatwick's head as an incentive. The bomb eventually detonated, but Willow was not inside.

Several days later, Gatwick built a number of bombs for an attack on a nearby spaceport, this time serving as getaway driver while Athena students Pann and Hippolyta were assigned with Rand to plant them. The operation failed when armed security grew suspicious of the students, and preserved surveillance footage left the cell at risk of exposure. When Pann and Hippolyta disappeared, it became clear that Sister Willow had identified everyone in the cell, in reality through a Soldiers of the One mole within the Global Defense Department. Gatwick hid in an unfinished building with Rand and Greeley and was ordered to build another bomb meant for Willow. Having lost faith in the cell, he left the bomb behind and tried to leave. Seen as a traitor, he was shot through the neck by Greeley as he went to the elevator.
