Pallas
the failed kobolforming world
Pallas was a planet in the Cyrannus star system whose repeated failed kobolforming attempts helped instigate the Imperial Wars and which came under Cylon attack during the First Cylon War.
Pallas was a planet in the Cyrannus star system orbiting the star Helios Beta. No longer tectonically active, it had lost most of its atmosphere to space, and Colonial efforts to kobolform it had so far failed. Even so, several colonies and a military station were maintained on its surface, sustained by enormous kobolforming machines stationed around the world.
Geography and condition#
Pallas orbited the star Helios Beta in the Cyrannus star system. It was no longer tectonically active, and most of its atmosphere had escaped into space, leaving it unable to support life naturally. Colonial efforts to kobolform the world had so far failed, yet several colonies and a military station were maintained on its surface.
Failed kobolforming and the Imperial Wars#
By the time of the Cylon War, Pallas had already been the subject of three failed kobolforming attempts. Several massive kobolformers were stationed around the planet, providing support for surface habitat domes that housed thousands of civilian and military personnel. The third and largest of these attempts is considered to have been one of the instigating factors of the Imperial Wars, fought between Leonis and Virgon some years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Attack during the Cylon War#
During the second half of the war, the planet came under attack by Cylon forces. Multiple explosions across the surface knocked more than half of the planet's pumping stations offline, causing an air shortage in the domed cities. Galactica, then designated BSG-75, was dispatched on a relief effort alongside Lieutenant Sherman Cottle. While preparing for atmospheric entry, the battlestar group was ambushed by a Cylon fleet, which caused a significant delay in the emergency response and the deaths of thousands of civilians.
